Opal Corriher Lee
CHINA GROVE — Opal Corriher Lee, 50, 215 First
Corriher St., died Thursday (Dec. 7, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord,
after six weeks of declining health and two weeks of serious illness.
Born July 1, 1950, in Rowan County, Mrs. Lee was
a daughter of the late Dewey Shelton and Virgie Cauble Corriher. Educated in
Rowan County schools, she had been a waitress for Kent’s Steak House and
David’s Barbecue. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include husband Ronald Eugene Lee, whom
she married April 5, 1985; son Michael Eugene Lee, of the home; stepsons Tony
Lee, China Grove, Todd Lee, Landis, and Jimmy Lee, Rockwell; daughter Betty
Wilson, Salisbury; stepdaughter Cindy Black, China Grove; brothers Dewey and
David Corriher, both of Salisbury; sister Jean Hodge, Salisbury; and eight
grandchildren.
Services:2 p.m. Sunday, Lyerly Funeral Home,
conducted by the Rev. Robert Turner. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park, China
Grove.

Barbara Ann Efird Hill
ALBEMARLE — Barbara Ann Efird Hill, 64, 400 F.
Farmbrook Drive, Lot 7, died Thursday (Dec. 7, 2000) at Mercy Hospital.
Born Feb. 20, 1936, in Stanly County, Mrs. Hill
was a daughter of the late Grove Harmon and Virgie Scott Efird. She worked at
Wiscassett Mills before she was disabled in 1990.
Her husband, Wade Darrell Hill, preceded her in
death.
Survivors include sons David Hill, Albemarle,
Darrell Hill, Norwood, and Dwight Hill, Badin; brothers Gary Efird, Albemarle,
and Lewis Efird, North Las Vegas, Nev.; sister Sue Broadway, Concord; six
grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Services:4 p.m. Saturday, Aquadale Baptist
Church, conducted by the Rev. Reese Linnell and the Rev. Robert Ellis.
Visitation:7-9 tonight, Hartsell Funeral Home. At

Earnest Lee Kirksey
Earnest Lee Kirksey, 80, Salisbury, died
Wednesday (Dec. 6, 2000)at Hefner VA Medical Center after a period of declining
health.
Born Sept. 28, 1920, in Gaston County, Mr.
Kirksey was a son of the late Charlie Bigelow and Hattie Powell Kirksey.
Educated in Gaston County schools, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was awarded the second highest military award in tank battle, The
Distinguished ServiceCross, and the Purple Heart, five Battle Stars and many
other decorations with the 743 Tank Battalion.
Retired from Rowan Cotton Mills, he was a member
of First Baptist Church, Rockwell, a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and active
as long as his health would permit.
Survivors include wife Geneva Null Kirksey, whom
he married March 30, 1943; sons Earnest Lee Kirksey Jr., Rockwell, and Michael
Eugene Kirksey, Salisbury; sister Violet Coble, Salisbury; five grandchildren;
and three great-grandchildren.
Services:11 a.m. Saturday, First Baptist Church,
Rockwell, conducted by Dr. Benny Vickrey. The body will be placed in the church
at 10:30. Burial, family plot, church cemetery, with military rites by the Rowan
County Veterans Council.

Russell Kresslov
CHARLOTTE — The funeral will be Sunday for
Russell Kresslov, 86, father of Karen Kresslov Morris, Salisbury, who died
Wednesday (Dec. 6, 2000)at Carolinas Medical Center.
He retired as a colonel from the U.S. Air Force
and was sworn in to the U.S. Supreme Court by Judge Earl Warren in 1958.

Harold Otis ‘Speed’ Leslie
Harold Otis “Speed” Leslie, 75, formerly of
Highway 70, died Thursday (Dec. 7, 2000)at Autumn Care of Salisbury.
Born June 11, 1925, in Salisbury, Mr. Leslie was
a son of the late Otis Tyris Leslie and Jennie Lee Earnhardt Leslie Boger.
Educated in Salisbury city schools, Mr. Leslie served in the U.S. Navy during
World War II, 1943-1945.
He retired at a route man fromPet Dairy of
Salisbury after 35 years. He attended Enon Baptist Church and was a charter
member of Harold B. Jarrett American Legion Post.
Survivors include son Tyris Franklin Leslie,
Salisbury; brother W. Preston and Robert A. Leslie, both of Salisbury; sister
Joanne B. Holshouser, Faith; and three grandchildren.

Charlie Leon Miller
Charlie Leon Miller, 77, Stokes Ferry Road, died
Thursday (Dec. 7, 2000)at his home after one month of serious illness.
Born May 3, 1923, in Rowan County, Mr. Miller was
a son of the late Lonnie H. and Martha Lou Trexler. Educated in Rowan County
schools, Mr. Miller was earlier employed by Southern Railway and retired from
Cartex Mills. He was a member of Stallings Memorial Baptist Church and the
Friendly Bible Class.
Survivors include wife Elizabeth Linebarger
Miller, whom he married in 1941; sons Sonny Miller, Rockwell, and Michael
Miller, Salisbury; daughter Charlene Miller, Salisbury; sisters Pauline Kerley
and Aileen Casey, both of Salisbury; four grandchildren; and three
great-grandsons.

The funeral will be Saturday for Jeannette Brown
Wall Miller, 67, 8544 Old Concord Road, died Wednesday (Dec. 6, 2000)at Rowan
Regional Medical Center.
Born May 24, 1933, in Faith, Mrs. Miller was a
daughter of the late Jacob H. and Anna Kluttz Brown. Educated in Rowan County
schools, she worked at Cannon Mills in the washcloth department. She was a
member of Landis Baptist Church.
Her first husband, Samuel F. Wall, died in 1981,
and her second husband, Edward Miller, died in 1996.
Survivors include son Samuel Wall, Salisbury;
daughters Debbie Farrington and Rhonda Tucker, both of China Grove, Sylvia
Barnette, New London; brother Carl Brown, Rockwell; sister Ann Ricter, Surfside
Beach; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

KANNAPOLIS —Grace Bowlin Wyatt, 80, formerly of
910 Klondale Ave., died Thursday (Dec. 7, 2000)at Avante Nursing Center,
Concord.
Born July 15, 1920, in Wilkes County, she was a
daughter of the late Adam and Mary Darnell Bowlin. She retired from Cannon Mills
Co. plant 1 no. 6 weave room and was a member of Peak Creek Presbyterian Church,
North Wilkesboro.
Her husband, Donald Wyatt, died in 1974.
Survivors include daughters Frances Ward, Sandra
Little, Martha Clayton and Carolyn Crowell, all of Kannapolis, and Patricia
Millstead, Charleston, S.C.; sons John Allen Wyatt, Concord, Donald Wyatt Jr.,
China Grove, and Tommy Lynn Wyatt, Kannapolis; sister Sadie Darnell, Wilkesboro;
brother Arnold Bowlin, Wilkesboro; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and
one great-great-grandchild.

Virginia Hutchins Evans
MOCKSVILLE — Virginia Hutchins Evans, 89,
Wilkesboro Street, died Thursday (Dec. 7, 2000) at Meadowbrook Terrace of Davie.
Born Oct. 29, 1911, in Glenville, Ga., Mrs. Evans
was a daughter of the late Blanche Strain and Walter E. Hutchins. She graduated
from Old City Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Winston-Salem, and was a
retired private duty nurse and caregiver with Davie County Hospital.
She was a member of the Eastern Star, N.C.
Federation of Women’s Clubs, Center and Mocksville Senior Citizens, Center
United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.
She was also well known as a pencil and chalk
artist.
Her husband, E.P. “Fuzzy” Evans, died in
1984.
Survivors include daughters Laura Markland,
Winston-Salem, and Nancy Hodges, Norfolk, Va.; four grandchildren; and four
great-grandchildren.
