Thelma Elaine Scott Barnes, 88, 803 Wesley Drive, died Saturday (Dec. 2, 2000)at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.
Born Oct. 1, 1912, in Gage County, Ky., Mrs. Barnes was a daughter of the late Charles S. and Evie Buchanan Scott. Educated at Kevil schools in Kentucky, she was retired from UNISYS Corp., Livonia, Mich. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Salisbury, and former member of Gapway Baptist Church, Lakeland, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean W. Barnes, who died in 1973.
Survivors include daughter Florence White Starnes, Salisbury; three grandsons; five great-granddaughters; and one great-great-granddaughter.

William Jefferson Cranford
CHINA GROVE —William Jefferson Cranford, 76, 202 Park St., died Tuesday (Dec. 5, 2000)at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born Aug. 8, 1924, in Stanly County, Mr. Cranford was a son of the late Rev. H.B. and Effie Moore Cranford. Educated in Rowan County, he retired as a lieutenant commander from the U.S. Navy and had served as commander of U.S. Naval Training Station, Orlando, Fla. His last post was ammunition officer of Naval Weapons Laboratory,
Dalhgren, Va. He was a member of China Grove Church of God and VFW Post 09089.
Mr. Cranford was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Neiker Cranford.

Albert Lewis ‘Bert’Davis
KANNAPOLIS — Albert Lewis “Bert” Davis, 76, 325 Briarcliff Drive, a resident of Transitional Health Services for the past year, died Tuesday (Dec. 5, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born July 5, 1924, in Cheraw, S.C., Mr. Davis was a son of the late John Franklin Davis and Bernice Gaddy Davis Herrin. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of the DAV and American Legion and a member of North Kannapolis United Methodist Church.
Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his daughter Angela Dianne Davis.
Survivors include wife Frankie Louise Wellman Davis; daughters Deborah Davis Perkins and Karen Davis Jung, both of Concord; sister Johnny Bell Wilhelm, Kannapolis; and two grandchildren.

Flora L. Huneycutt
KANNAPOLIS — Flora Lanning Huneycutt, 91, a resident of Concord Place, Concord, formerly of Kannapolis, died Wednesday (Dec. 6, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center after six months of declining health and one month of serious illness.
Born May 15, 1909, in Lexington, Mrs. Huneycutt was a daughter of the late Arthur Clifton and Mary Dora Walser Lanning. She and her husband owned and operated Star Dry Cleaners in Kannapolis for many years. She was a member and former deaconess of First Baptist Church and had been a member of the Women’s Breakfast Club.
Mrs. Huneycutt was preceded in death by her husband, James Crowell Huneycutt, who died in November 1974.
Survivors include daughters Blenda H. Gault, Gastonia, and Doris H. Hartis, Kannapolis; son the Rev. James C. Huneycutt Jr., Salisbury; sister Mary L.
Swink, Margaret, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Clyde ‘Sam’ McCorkle
LANDIS — Clyde Samuel “Sam” McCorkle, 71, 1205 Highland Ave., died Tuesday (Dec. 5, 2000)at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, after three months of illness.
Born July 4, 1929, in Rowan County, Mr. McCorkle was a son of the late Clifford Revere and Edith Mae Yost McCorkle. He was educated in the Rowan County school system and Evans Business College, Concord. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ and had served as an elder, on various committees of the church and was a member of the choir. He was a member of the Enochville and Landis Lions clubs and past president of the Enochville club.
Mr. McCorkle served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He had worked for Florida Steel for 22 years, retiring in 1984. He worked part-time at Centerview Hardware, Kannapolis, until his illness.
Survivors include wife Nathalane Murphy McCorkle; son Jeffrey A. McCorkle, China Grove; daughter Cynthia M. Caudill, Kannapolis; brothers Clifford R. “Bill” McCorkle Jr., China Grove, Harold McCorkle, Rock Hill, S.C., and Jerry McCorkle, Salisbury; sisters Evelyn

Born Sept. 12, 1915, in Rowan County, Mrs. Muilenberg was a daughter of the late Oren Blaine and Margaret Esther Beck Everhart. Educated in Rowan County schools, she was retired from Cannon Mills, Plant 7, and was a member of the Salisbury Salvation Army.
Mrs. Muilenberg was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Muilenberg, who died June 5, 1981.

Born April 14, 1921, in Bonlee, Chatham County, she was a daughter of the late Nathaniel R. and Flossie Lasley Voss. She was an area resident since 1943 and was a homemaker. She was also an accountant for various businesses, including the U.S. Air Force and Cannon Mills, Inc. She was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Kannapolis.

Hatley. She was a retired spinner from Wiscassett Mills, where she worked for 40 years, and was a member of Palestine United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Talbert was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Curtis Talbert.
She is survived by a brother James H. Hatley, China Grove.

Wendie Alexander Wallace, 216 South West St., died Wednesday (Dec. 6, 2000)at her residence.
Born in Cabarrus County, she was a daughter of the late Jess R. and Bertha Polk Alexander. Educated in Cabarrus County schools, she was retired from Fieldcrest Cannon Swink Plant, where she was a weaver. She was a member of Tower of Power Holy Church, where she was revered as the mother of the church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Wallace Jr., who died Dec. 25, 1980.
Survivors include sons Ron Shadd, Matthews, and Felix Wallace, Salisbury; daughter Jessica W. Bledsoe, Salisbury; stepsister Mae A. Lynch, Landis; and eight grandchildren.
