Earl James Blake

KANNAPOLIS — Earl James Blake, 79, 1407 Oakshade Ave., died Saturday (Dec. 2, 2000) at his residence, after a lengthy illness.

Born Sept. 21, 1921, in Stanly County, Mr. Blake was a son of the late Will A. and Ruth King Blake. He had lived in this area since 1953, moving from Charlotte. In 1986, he retired from Deluca Valve Co., Charlotte.

Mr. Blake was preceded in death by sons Earl James Blake Jr. and Scott Eugene Blake.

Survivors include wife Agnes Canup Blake, of the home; son James Blake, Mount Pleasant; daughters Sandra B. Greene and Diane B. Rorie, both of Kannapolis, and Lyndyll B. Pothress, New London; sister Frances B. Mingus, Monroe; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 2 p.m. Tuesday, Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. John Sells.

Visitation: 12:30-2 p.m. Tuesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home.

Memorials: Hospice of Cabarrus, Inc., 65 Lake Concord Road, Concord, NC 28025.

 

Patricia Ann Fink

KANNAPOLIS — Patricia Ann Fink, 61, 705 Forrest Ave., died today (Dec. 4, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Whitley’s Funeral Home is in charge.

 

John Henry Hamilton

OAKBORO — John Henry Hamilton, 77, 427 Hamilton Road, died Friday (Dec. 1, 2000) at his residence.

Born March 22, 1923, in Anson County, Mr. Hamilton was a son of the late Fulton and Mary Polk Hamilton. Educated in the public schools of Anson and Cabarrus counties, Mr. Hamilton was a retired truck driver.

Mr. Hamilton was preceded in death by his wife, Marion Roseboro Hamilton.

Survivors include sons William Hamilton, of the home, and Greg Hamilton, Astoria, N.Y.; daughters Annie Hamilton, Salisbury, Pansy and Carol Hamilton, both of Far Rockaway, N.Y., and Teresa Hamilton, Astoria, N.Y.; sister Stella M. Cagle, Red Banks, N.J.; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, Oakboro, conducted by the Rev. Gerald Searles, pastor. Burial, Williams’ Cemetery, Polkton.

Visitation: 1:30 p.m. Thursday, at the church.

Kelsey Funeral Home of Albemarle is in charge.

 

Phyllis R. Heglar

MOUNT ULLA —Phyllis R. Heglar, 72, 220 Back Creek Church Road, died Sunday (Dec. 3, 2000) at Genesis Eldercare, Mooresville.

Born Feb. 16, 1928, in Rowan County, Mrs. Heglar was a daughter of the late J. Will and Bertie Mae Beaver Heglar. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Mount Ulla.

Survivors include brother J.W. “Dub” Heglar and sister Martha H. Lowrance.

Services: 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Centenary United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Buddy Champion. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight, Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville.

Percy Irene Cook Hundley

SPENCER —Percy Irene Cook Hundley, 92, 414 Crestwood Lane, formerly of Francisco, died Saturday (Dec. 2, 2000) at the Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation of Rowan in Salisbury.

Born March 4, 1908, Mrs. Hundley was a daughter of the late Caleb and Ida Haymore Cook. She was a retired school teacher and was a member of Collinstown Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband R.M. Hundley.

Survivors include daughters Jo Ann Hundley Kirstein, Chapel Hill, and Lynn Nelson, Key Biscayne, Fla.; son Bob Hundley, Spencer; sisters Ethel Flippin, Pulaski, Va., and Foy Smith, Pilot Mountain; brother Joe Cook, Mount Airy; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services: 3 p.m. Tuesday, Collinstown Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Jesse Bledsoe and the Rev. Charles Howell. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight, Moody Funeral Home, Mount Airy.

 

Thomas Lloyd McDonald

BADIN — Thomas Lloyd McDonald, 55, 208 Mayo St., died Saturday (Dec. 2, 2000) at his residence.

Born May 2, 1945, in Stanly County, Mr. McDonald was a son of the late Ellis Windell and Justine Jordan McDonald. Educated at West Badin High School, he attended Rowan Technical College, Salisbury. He was a former building inspector for the city of New York, N.Y., and had been employed by the University of North Carolina, Charlotte. He was a member of McDonald Chapel AME Zion Church.

Survivors include daughters Cassandra M. Haywood and Phelexia McDonald, both of Albemarle; brothers Bobby McDonald, New London, Leonard McDonald, Badin, and Robert Cody, Albemarle; sisters Hazel M. Cody, New York, N.Y., Gladys M. Smith, Charlotte, and Lenora McDonald and Tonia Griffin, both of Badin; and three grandchildren.

Services: 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, McDonald Chapel AME Zion Church, Badin, conducted by the Rev. Curtis Long, pastor. Burial, Oak View Cemetery, New London.

Visitation: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church. At other times the family will be at the home of a Bobby McDonald, New London.

Everett Franklin Morton

NEW LONDON —Everett Franklin Morton, 36, 35648 Hubert Road, Lot No. 3, died Saturday (Dec. 2, 2000) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Born Dec. 8, 1963, in Mooresville, Iredell County, Mr. Morton was a son of Bobby Lynn Morton, Concord, and the late Flora Mae Furr Morton. He was an auto mechanic for Muffler King, Kannapolis.

Survivors, in addition to his father, include wife Karen Lanae Byrd Morton, Concord; daughter Virginia “Cooter” Morton, Concord; brothers Robert, Tommy and Michael Morton, all of Concord, Bobby Morton, Cheraw, S.C., and David Morton, Kannapolis; sister Linda Morton, Kannapolis; and paternal grandmother Myrtle Morton, Concord.

Services: 4 today, Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. Burial, Norview Gardens, Inc., Norwood.

Visitation: The family will be at the home on Hubert Road.
