Ruby Morton Cooper

ALBEMARLE—Ruby Cather-ine Morton Cooper, 85, 602 E. Cannon Ave., died Friday (Dec. 1, 2000) at Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte.

Born June, 10 1915, in Stanly County, she was the daughter of the late Bertha Burris and G.C. “Good” Morton. She had retired as assistant manager of radio station WABZ.

She was educated in the Millingport and Albemarle schools and at Wingate College. She was an member of North Albemarle Baptist Church and the Business and Professional Women’s Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Draper Walter Cooper.

Survivors include son Jerry Morton Cooper of Indian Trail; daughter Sue Cooper of Charlotte; three grandchildren; and 10 great-grand children.

Services: 2 p.m. Sunday at North Albemarle Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Grady Taylor. Burial at Fairview Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Hartsell Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home on Cannon Avenue.

Pauline Yow Sells Crisco

ALBEMARLE — Pauline Yow Sells Crisco, 89, 33420 Old Salisbury Road, died Thursday (Nov. 30, 2000) at Britthaven of the Piedmont.

Born April 26, 1911, in Stanly County, Mrs. Crisco was the daughter of the late John Alexander and Ellar Heglar Yow. She had retired as a spinner with Wiscassett Mills.

Mrs. Crisco was preceded in death by her first husband, Clarence G. Sells.

Survivors include husband John Henry Crisco; stepsons Lonnie Crisco, Norwood, and Joey Crisco, Albemarle; brother Dewey Ray Yow, Richfield; and two step-grandchildren.

Services:2 p.m. today, Hartsell Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Bob Clanton. Burial, Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery, Richfield.

 

Annie Barnhardt Gibson

KANNAPOLIS—Annie Mae Barnhardt Gibson, 71, 2410 McGill Ave., died Friday (Dec. 1, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center in Concord after six years of declining health.

Born March 9, 1929, in Cabarrus County, she was the daughter of the late William A. and Mary Upright Barnhardt.

Survivors include sister Ruth B. Smith and brothers J. William Barnhardt and George Y. Barnhardt, all of Kannapolis.

Services: 3 p.m. Sunday at Whitley’s Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Charles Savage. Burial at Greenlawn Cemetery in China Grove.

Visitation: 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

 

Bonnie Gregory

JULIAN — Bonnie Gregory, 84, 5485 Wild Turkey Road, died Thursday (Nov. 30, 2000) at her home.

Survivors include daughter Judy Bartley of New London; son Dale Gregory of the home; sister Louise “Dink” Taylor of Gold Hill; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 2 p.m. Sunday at Lakeview Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Greeson & Neese Funeral Home.

 

Mary Lipe Hager

MOORESVILLE—Mary Lipe Stewart Hager, 73, West Waterlynn Road, died Friday (Dec. 1, 2000) at her home.

Born on Aug. 30, 1927, in Mecklenburg County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Williams and Annie Brumley Stewart. She had retired as a machine operator for Templon Spinning Mills after more than 20 years with the company. She was a member of Centre Presbyterian Church, Mount Mourne.

Survivors include husband Durant L. Hager; daughters Patricia H. Haskett and Karen Hager, both of Mooresville; son Jay Williams Hager, also of Mooresville; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. G. Woody Alexander and the Rev. Robert M. Howard. Burial, Glenwood Memorial Park.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Annette Turner Lingle

FAITH — Annette Turner Lingle, 88, died Thursday (Nov. 30, 2000).

Born Nov. 3, 1912, in Oglethrope County, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Annie Steele and Robert D. Turner.

She was educated at Mason Academy in Lexington, Ga., and at Georgia State College for women in Milledgeville, Ga. She had retired from Cannon Mills, Plant 1.

She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, where she was active in WELCA and taught Sunday school for 50 years. She was also active with the annual Faith Fourth of July celebration.

Survivors include husband Wilbern Cardell Lingle, whom she married Sept. 14, 1933; sons Kenneth C. Lingle of San Antonio, Texas, and Douglas E. Lingle of Crownsville, Md.; brother Wallace Turner of Elberton, Ga.; sister Bobbie Davis, also of Elberton, Ga.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Faith Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Keith Copeland, pastor, and the Rev. John Merck, pastor of Mighty Fortress Lutheran Church in Charlotte.

Visitation: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Powles Funeral Home in Rockwell.

Arnold Pliney Shaver

KANNAPOLIS — Arnold Pliney Shaver, 95, formerly of 220 W. A St., died Thursday (Nov. 30, 2000) at Big Elm Nursing Center.

Born Aug. 9, 1905, in Rowan County, Mr. Shaver was a son of the late Pliney and Catherine Myers Shaver. Educated in the Rowan County schools, he was a carpenter for D.C. Linn Construction Co., Landis, until his retirement.

His wife, Montie GroveneShaver, died Sept. 9, 1999, and a son, Bill Shaver, died in 1996.

Survivors include sons Guy Francis Shaver, Concord, Glenn Shaver, Germany, and James Shaver, Princeton, La.; sisters Lois Davis, Kannapolis, and Ruth White, Mocksville; and 14 grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, Landis, conducted by the Rev. James Masters. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park, Concord.

Visitation: 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the residence.

 

Jerry Dean Thompson

MOORESVILLE — Jerry Dean Thompson, 63, East Iredell Avenue, died Thursday (Nov. 30, 2000) at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.

Born Nov. 25, 1937, in Mooresville, Mr. Thompson was a son of the late Charles Walter Thompson and the late Macie Thompson Kotten. He had retired as a nuclear maintenance specialist for Duke Power Co. after 16 years with the company. A U.S. Army veteran, he was a member of Whitman Park Baptist Church.

Survivors include wife Sylvia Jean Jones Thompson, whom he married May 29, 1958; son Timothy Charles Thompson, Mooresville; daughter Gwenna Thompson Pinney, Troutman; sister Charlene Gurucharri, Miami, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

Services:2 p.m. Sunday, Whitman Park Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Allen Reid. Burial, Glenwood Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight, Cavin-Cook Funeral Home.
