T. Harry Almond
ALBEMARLE — T. Harry Almond, 80, 28958 Pennington Road, died Sunday (Aug. 27, 2000) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.
Born July 12, 1920, in Stanly County, Mr. Almond was a son of the late Isaac Richmond and Alice Smith Almond. He had retired as co-owner and operator of A&A Auto Parts. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Saints Bible Sunday School Class.
His wife, Mary Chance Almond, preceded him in death.
Survivors include sisters Jacqueline Martin, Key Biscayne, Fla., and Martha Crater, Albemarle.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, First Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Harold McDonald. Burial, Fairview Memorial Park. Masonic rites by Lodge 703.

Gerald Hatley
KANNAPOLIS — Gerald D. Hatley, 51, 1225 Carolyn Ave., died Sunday (Aug. 27, 2000) at his home after a lengthy illness.
Born Jan. 22, 1949, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Hatley was a son of Lucille Sartain Hatley, Kannapolis, and the late Rev. James F. Hatley. A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, he was a heavy equipment operator with Overcash Equipment Co., Concord.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include wife Toma Dawn Thomas Hatley; daughters Rhonda Lynn Burris and Lisa Marie Furr, both of Kannapolis; son Jerry Shinn, Albemarle; stepsons Kim Baker, Spencer, and Richard and Robin Baker, both of Kannapolis; sister Sandra Kay Lee, Kannapolis; and nine grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Concord Lake Missionary Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Ralph Hager and the Rev. Gary Scoggins. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park. Military rites by Concord DAV.

Doris Bame Herring
CAROLINA BEACH — Doris Juanita Bame Herring, Carolina Beach, died Sunday (Aug. 27, 2000) at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington.
Born July 19, 1927, in Rowan County, Mrs. Herring was the daughter of the late James L. and Florence Amanda Ludwig Bame. She had retired after 34 years with the New Hanover County school system.
She also owned and operated Center Pier with her husband for more than 30 years. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Allen Herring, and a son, George Council Herring.
Survivors include brothers James Cecil Bame, Carolina Beach, and Robert Bame, Pikeville; sister Ruby Bame Knox, Salisbury; and three grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel, conducted by the Rev. William S. Hoyle Jr. Burial, Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Eubert Walter Lyerly
Eubert Walter Lyerly, 84, Salisbury, died Monday (Aug. 27, 2000) at the Hefner VA Medical Center after eight years of declining health and six months of serious illness.
Born Feb. 15, 1916, in Rowan County, Mr. Lyerly was a son of the late Sarah Ford and Joseph Lyerly. Educated in the Rowan County schools, he was a World War II veteran of the Seabees.
He had retired after more than 50 years as a carpenter and building contractor. A member of Cleveland Presbyterian Church, Cleveland, he was a former Sunday school teacher and church treasurer.
Mr. Lyerly was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Ann Lyerly.
Survivors include wife Ruby Frances Brown Lyerly, whom he married Jan. 21, 1939; sons Wayne Eubert Lyerly, Donald Walter Lyerly and Jerry Wade Lyerly, all of Salisbury, and Terry Gray Lyerly, Cleveland; daughters Wanda Renea Gallimore, Salisbury, and Anita Lyerly Mullis, Advance; sister Josephine Moon, Madison Heights, Va.; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Lola Adkins Moseley, 100
CHARLOTTE —Lola Adkins Moseley, 100, 1933 Thurmond Place, mother of Robert Moseley, Cleveland, died Saturday (Aug. 26, 2000) at her home.

Earl Eugene Riggs
KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Wednesday for Earl Eugene Riggs, 71, 5300 Rogers Lake Road, who died Monday (Aug. 28, 2000) at his home after nine months of serious illness.
Born Oct. 19, 1928, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Riggs was a daughter of Mary Swicegood Riggs, Kannapolis, and the late John G. Riggs. He had worked at Charlotte Missile Plant, Charlotte; Fiber Industries (now KoSa), Salisbury; and Cannon Mills.
He later retired as a supervisor at General Time, Davidson. Also a farmer, he was a lifetime member of West Point Baptist Church.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include wife Doris Phillips Riggs; son Tony E. Riggs, Kannapolis; daughters Susan R. Taylor, Kannapolis, and Sharon R. Cornelius, Omaha, Neb.; brother Larry Riggs, Concord; sisters Lamina Griffin and Phyllis Upright, both of Kannapolis; stepsons Gene S. Trexler, Kannapolis, and Allen Trexler, Stockbridge, Ga.; stepdaughter Cheryl T. Bost, Kannapolis; four grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

John Leonard Rogers
KANNAPOLIS —John Leonard Rogers, 72, 1090 Ebenezer Road, died Monday (Aug. 28, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born July 13, 1928, in Rowan County, Mr. Rogers was a son of the late Carrie Hudson and Archie Lee Rogers. Educated in Rowan County, Mr. Rogers had retired from Cannon Mills, Plant 1, in 1982. He was a member of Central Baptist Church.
Survivors include son Johnny L. Rogers, Kannapolis; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Central Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Curtis Parker. Burial, Greenlawn Cemetery.

Arbie Haywood Sellers
WOODLEAF — The funeral will be Wednesday for Arbie Haywood Sellers, 77, Big Elm Retirement Center, Kannapolis, formerly of Woodleaf, who died Monday (Aug. 28, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born Aug. 31, 1922, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Sellers was a daughter of the late V.O. Haywood and the late Ida May Bost Haywood Sellers. Educated in the Cabarrus County schools, she had retired from Fieldcrest Cannon’s spinning department.
Her husband, Parnell Sellers, died Nov. 1, 1998.
Survivors include sons Mack R. Shoe, Providence, R.I., and Reggie and Jeffrey Tevepaugh, both of Rockwell; daughters Alice Troutman, Kannapolis, and Marsha Starnes, Salisbury; brothers James and Jerry Haywood, both of Kannapolis; sisters Opal Hough, Kannapolis, and Colleen Knight, Rockwell; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Roy Slone
CHINA GROVE — Roy Slone, 76, 245 Walt Corriher Road, died Monday (Aug. 28, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born March 28, 1924, in Fixer, Ky., Mr. Slone was a son of the late Hazel Tuggle and Issac Slone. Educated in the Lee County schools, he had retired from Cannon Mills, Plant 4.
Survivors include wife Mildred Corriher Slone; daughters Diane Mishak, Donna Blizzard and Dana Davis, all of China Grove; stepdaughter Barbara Jean Knudsen, Kannapolis; sisters Juanita Surgenal and Mildred Livengood, both of Lexington, Ky.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
