Ruby Beaver
STATESVILLE —Ruby Reavis Beaver, 82, 108 Ed’s Lane, formerly of Oak Street, Kannapolis, died Sunday (Aug. 27, 2000) at Iredell Memorial Hospital.
Born March 9, 1918, in Troutman, Mrs. Beaver was a daughter of the late Edward and Dora Bell Stafford Hollifield. She had retired from Cannon Mills’ sewing room.
Her husbands, Harold Reavis and Eugene Beaver, preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughter Linda Curtis Gray, Statesville; son James Reavis, Daytona Beach, Fla.; brother Paul Hollifield, Kannapolis; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. Tuesday, Carolina Memorial Park.

Minnie Ruth C. Bryant
ALBEMARLE —The funeral will be Tuesday for Minnie Ruth Collins Bryant, 74, 220 Center St., who died Friday (Aug. 25, 2000) at Brian Center, Mooresville.
Born Sept. 27, 1925, in Stanly County, Mrs. Bryant was a daughter of the late Hubert Collins and Fletcher Harris Little. She was a graduate of Kingsville High School and attended nursing school in New York City.
Mrs. Bryant retired as a registered nurse and from her employment with Revlon Cosmetics. She was a member of Mount Zion Ministries.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Adolph Bryant, and a son, Ronald A. Bryant.
Survivors include foster sister Helen L. Hutchinson, Albemarle.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Greater Mount Zion Ministries, conducted by Bishop James T. Worthy. Burial, church cemetery.

Lillian Joyce Allen Carter
MOCKSVILLE — The funeral will be Tuesday for Lillian Joyce Allen Carter, 85, Pudding Ridge Road, who died Saturday (Aug. 26, 2000) at Meadowbrook Terrace of Davie.
Born Sept. 15, 1914, in Davie County, Mrs. Carter was a daughter of the late John Frank and Sally Weir Allen. She was a 1931 graduate of Farmington High School and had retired from Roses and Kings Department Stores.
She was a member of Farmington Baptist Church.
Her husband, Harry Lyerly Carter, died July 6, 1974.
Survivors include son Harold Lee Carter, Mocksville; sisters Martha Ketner, Winston-Salem, and Beulah Flippin, Westfield; one grandson; and two great-grandchildren.

Thelma DeMarcus
KANNAPOLIS —Thelma Scarborough DeMarcus, 76, 1104 Pump Station Road, died Sunday (Aug. 27, 2000) at Big Elm Nursing Center.
Born June 6, 1924, in Cabarrus County,Mrs. DeMarcus, a daughter of the late Joseph P. and Lois Smith Scarborough, was a member of Kannapolis First Presbyterian Church.
A food worker, she had retired from Kannapolis City Schools and had worked at Kannapolis Middle School.
Survivors include husband E.F. DeMarcus Jr.; daughters Judy D. Petrea and Amy D. Paterson, both of Kannapolis, and Lynn D. Velma Louise Craft Dietz
The funeral will be Tuesday for Velma Louise Craft Dietz, 76, 3711 Mooresville Road, who died Saturday (Aug. 26, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after two months of declining health and nine days of serious illness.
Born Sept. 29, 1923, in Iron City, Tenn., Mrs. Dietz was a daughter of the late Mack and Cecilia Kimbel Craft. She was educated in the Iron City, Tenn., schools and was a graduate of Loretto High School, Loretto, Tenn.
A floral designer in Jacksonville, she was a homemaker. She was of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include John Lawrence Dietz, whom she married March 15, 1943; sons Robert L. “Bob” Dietz, Woodleaf, Kenneth Wayne Dietz, Faith, and Richard Allen “Ricky” Dietz, Ocklawaha, Fla.; brothers Mack Craft Jr., and Donald “Don” Craft, both of Columbia, Tenn., and Charles Brant Craft, East Bend, N.Y.; sister Lillian C. Sandra Kay Silver Gobble
Sandra Kay Silver Gobble, 33, Salisbury, died Sunday (Aug. 27, 2000) at her home. She had been in declining health since November, 1999.
Born Feb. 27, 1967, in Catawba County, Mrs. Gobble was a daughter of the Rev. Dean and Carolyn Huskins Silver, both of Marion. She had attended Maranatha Christian School, Marion, and the University of North Carolina at Asheville.
A manager with Citigroup Financial, Salisbury, she was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.
Survivors, in addition to her parents, include husband John Bryant Gobble, whom she married Feb. 14, 1998; brother BillSilver, Hickory; paternal grandfather Claude Silver, Bakersville, and maternal grandmother Marie Musick, Unicoy, Tenn.

Clyde A. Hartman Jr.
The funeral will be Tuesday for Clyde Alexander Hartman Jr., 78, Salisbury, who died Saturday (Aug. 26, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after three weeks of declining health.
Born Feb. 14, 1922, in Rowan County, Mr. Hartman, a son of the late Clyde Alexander and Walter Mae Miller Hartman, was a graduate of Boyden High School, Salisbury. A veteran, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
He had retired as supervisor with the Salisbury water department. A member of Franklin Baptist Church, T.W. Hamilton Sunday school class and Happy Hearts Senior Citizens Group, he was also a member of Harold B. Jarrett American Legion Post 342.
Survivors include wife Ruth Brooks Hartman, whom he married June 27, 1948; sons Terry Hartman, Charlotte, and Tom Hartman, Salisbury; brother W.T. Hartman, Victoria, Texas; sister Billie Kluttz, Salisbury, and Alice Haynes, Porter, Texas; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Iona Claybrooks House
The funeral will be Wednesday for Iona Claybrooks House, 76, 224 W. Lafayette St., who died Friday (Aug. 25, 2000) at her home after several years of declining health.
Born Jan. 27, 1924, in Guilford County, Mrs. House was a daughter of the late Cora Lee Claybrooks Propst and John “Johnnie” Harrison. She attended Dunbar High School, Greensboro, and Price High School in Salisbury.
She had worked at Paris Bakery, was a certified nursing assistant at Rowan Manor Nursing Center, now Brian Center, and was a professional caterer.
An active member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, she was a deaconess, a member of the Senior Usher Board, Senior Missionary Circle, the Pastor’s Aid, Link of God and the kitchen committee.
Mrs. House was also active in the community. She was a Girl Scout organizer and a member of Eastside Community Club and Rufty-Holmes Senior Center. She was a former member of VFW Auxiliary. She was a volunteer with Hospice , American Cancer Society, AmericanHeart Association and Habitat for Humanity.
Her husband, James H. House, died Aug. 2, 1996.
Survivors include sons Jimmy L., Robert E. “Bobby” and Richard“Ricky” House, all of Salisbury; daughters EirkaH. Melton, Lydia H. “Lit” Faust and Mary B. Sifford, all of Salisbury, and Genoria B. Payne, Pittsburgh, Pa.; sisters Jannie Terry and Lucille Harrison, both of Salisbury, and Dorothy Barber, Brooklyn, N.Y.; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Born Jan. 29, 1918, in Stanly County, Mrs. Morris was a daughter of the late Ken Mack and Maggie Phipps Ridenhour. Retired, she had been employed by James Mauney. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church.

Rev. Gene D. Peeler
The funeral will be Wednesday for The Rev. Gene David Peeler, 57, 720 Mount Moriah Church Road, who died Saturday (Aug. 26, 2000)at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 8, 1943, in Rowan County, Mr. Peeler was a son of the late Nevin Glen and Rose Baker Peeler. He was educated in Rowan County Schools and received a bachelor of art’s degree from Catawba College and a master’s in arts in divinity from Lancaster Theological Seminary.
A Lutheran minister, he presently served Mount Moriah Lutheran Church, China Grove, where he was a member. He had also served churches in Lexington and Gibsonville.
Survivors include wife Norma Crotts Peeler; son, Brent David Peeler, and daughter, Erin Brooke Peeler, both of the home.

William Lee Weiford
William Lee Weiford, 75, Salisbury, died Sunday (Aug. 27, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health.
Born April 2, 1925, in Marlinton, W.Va., Mr. Weiford was a son of the late Kennie and Laura Beard Weiford. He was a graduate of Parkersburg, W.Va., High School and Mountain State Business College. A veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He had retired as a bookkeeper for Tri-State Roofing and Sheet Metal Co. after 36 years.
He was a member of Enon Baptist Church. A former member of Baptist Temple Church, Parkersburg, W.Va., for over 46 years he was active in all phases of church work and was a former Gideon.
A son, Lawrence Nathan Weiford, preceded him in death.
Survivors include wife LeAnna Stephens Weiford, whom he married Jan. 31, 1948; sons Ret. Col. William L. Weiford Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo., Kenneth Earl Weiford, Bear, Del., and Stephen GaleWeiford, Salisbury; daughters Virginia Weiford Gibson, Peach Tree City, Ga., and Louise Weiford Pring, Faith; brother Jack S. Weiford, Parkersburg, W.Va.; and nine grandchildren.
