Obituary
Gene McKinley, a former vice
president for Food Lion, died Saturday morning at Isle of Palms, which is just
outside Charleston, S.C.
McKinley, 67, and his wife, Debra,
had moved to the Charleston area after his resignation from Food Lion in 1997.
McKinley joined Food Lion in 1977
and was named assistant secretary for the company in 1982. He became vice
president of human resources in 1984.
McKinley was active in community
affairs during his 20 years in Salisbury. A trustee at Rowan-Cabarrus Community
College, he also served on the state Board of Community Colleges.
He also served on the board of
directors for the Salisbury Rotary Club and was secretary/treasurer of the
Salisbury Scottish Society. He was a member of Salisbury’s First Presbyterian
Church, where he had served as an elder.
The funeral service will be held
Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at First Scots Presbyterian Church in Charleston, with
burial on Friday near his hometown of Brookville, Pa. A memorial service will be
held at First Methodist Church in Salisbury on Sept. 6 at 11 a.m.
