LEXINGTON — Paul Allison Beck,
70, 17 Cornelia Drive, died Monday (Aug. 21, 2000) at Lexington Health Care
Center.
Born Nov. 22, 1929, in Davidson
County, Mr. Beck was a son of the late Oscar Allison and Nellie Blake Beck. He
was a member of First Baptist Church, Lexington.
Survivors include sister Rullah
Nell Freeman, Southmont; and brother Charles Calvin Beck, Lexington.
Services: Graveside, 11 a.m.

Charlotte Mae Cope
LINWOOD — Charlotte Mae Reece
Cope, 74, 8069 Old Salisbury Road, died Monday (Aug. 21, 2000) at Moses Cone
Memorial Hospital,Greensboro.
Born Oct. 6, 1925, in Granville
County, Mrs. Cope, a daughter of the late Conley Reece and Effie Dooley, was a
homemaker. She was a member of Greer’s Chapel United Methodist Church and the
Spencer Women of the Moose Chapter, where she was best known as “Mom”.
Her husband, James J. Cope,
preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters
Brenda Weaver, Linwood, and Carolyn Waller, Rockwell; sons Jimmy and Conley
“Topper”Cope, both of Linwood; sisters Allie Mae Champion, Oxford, and
Dessie Morgan, Henderson; brother D.C. Reece, Oxford; seven grandchildren; and
five great-grandchildren.

Sandra Leigh Hawkins
SPENCER — The funeral will be
Friday for Sandra Leigh Hawkins, 35, 928 Third St., who died Sunday (Aug. 20,
2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.
BornApril 15, 1965, in Rowan
County, Miss Hawkins, a daughter of Rosie L. Haley, Spencer, and the late
Nehemiah Hawkins, was a graduate of North Rowan High School. She was employed by
Draftex, Inc., and was a member of Soldiers Memorial AMEZion Church. She was a
member of Sidewinders Motorcycle Club.
Survivors, in addition to her
mother, include fiance RoderickJones, of the home; son Roderick Hawkins, of the
home; brothers Nehemiah Hawkins, Salisbury, and Anthony Hawkins, Spencer; and
sisters Barbara Hargrave, Lexington, Naomi Hawkins, Salisbury, April Hawkins,

Cecil C. Midgett
GREENSBORO — The funeral will
be Saturday for Cecil C. Midgett, 69, 704 Meadowood Road, who died Monday (Aug.
21, 2000) at Moses Cone Hospital after several weeks of declining health.
Born May 14, 1931, in Columbia,
N.C., Mr. Midgett was a son of the late Glenn Riddick and Gladys Midgett. He was
educated in Columbia schools and was a graduate of Terrell County High School.
Mr. Midgett retired as a truck
driver from Kahn Lumber Co., Queens, N.Y. and was a residential counselor at
Bennett Family Care in Greensboro.
A former area resident, he was a
member of Third Creek AME Zion Church, Cleveland, the Men’s Booster Club and
Class No. 2. He was a Mason and Shriner while a resident of New York and an avid
bowler in a Greensboro bowling league.
Survivors include wife Dorothy
Hail Midgett; sons Alphonso Midgett, Harvest, Ala., Ronnie Midgett, Bowie, Md.,
Cecil Midgett Jr., Silver Springs, Md., Boris Midgett, Portsmouth, Va., Anthony
Midgett, Atlanta, Ga., and Henry Lee Midgett, St. Louis, Mo.; daughters Lisa
Midgett, Charlotte, Cecilia Midgett, Glen Burnie, Md., and LaBarbara Midgett,
Texas; stepson Emery Partee IV, Brooklyn, N.Y.; stepdaughter Cynthia Partee,
Jamaica, N.Y.; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Phyllis Blackwelder Mills
MOORESVILLE —Phyllis
Blackwelder Mills, 60, M &M Farms Drive, died Tuesday (Aug. 22, 2000) at
Lake Norman Regional Medical Center as the result of a stroke.
Born Jan. 14, 1940, in
Mooresville, Mrs. Mills was a daughter of Mary Robbins Blackwelder, Mooresville,
and the late John Carlton Blackwelder.
She was a 1958 graduate of
Mooresville High School and a substitute teacher of Mooresville and the Iredell-Statesville
school systems. An active member of Vanderburg United Methodist Church, she was
a member of the Iredell Cattleman’s Association.
Her husband, Billy Frank Mills,
preceded her in death.
Survivors, in addition to her
mother, include sons Brian Franklin and Bradley Wayne Mills, both of
Mooresville; and sister Matoka B. Marlow, Mooresville.

Pauline Herlocker Morton
ALBEMARLE — Georgia Pauline
Herlocker Morton, 83, 451 Brown Ave., died Monday (Aug. 21, 2000) at her home of
a daughter, Kathryn Morton Stephens, Atlanta, Ga.
Born Nov. 23, 1916, in Stanly
County, Mrs. Morton was a daughter of the late Jonah Alexander and Ada Hatley
Herlocker. She retired as a finisher at Wiscassett Mills and later was a
caregiver at Albemarle Lutheran Nursing Home and a private caregiver. She was a
member of Main Street United Methodist Church.
Her husband Daniel Boone Morton
preceded her in death.
Survivors, in addition to her
daughter, include son James D. “Don” Morton, Albemarle; sisters Maxine
McIntyre, Albemarle, Sarah H. Reeves, Charlotte, and Mary Brown Little,
Stanfield; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Eunice Morris Wagoner
ROCKWELL — The funeral will be
Thursday for Eunice Morris Wagoner, 86, Rockwell, who died Tuesday (Aug. 22,
2000) at Genesis ElderCare of Salisbury.
Born Feb. 4, 1914, in Cabarrus
County, Mrs. Wagoner was a daughter of the late William Matthew and Hannah
Elizabeth Shepherd Morris. She was educated in Cabarrus County schools and had
retired in 1977 from Fiber Industries, now KoSa.
She was a member of First Baptist
Church of Gold Hill.
Her husband, E. Coy Wagoner, died
July 17, 1967, and a son, Edmond Coy Wagoner Jr., died Oct. 9, 1990.
Survivors include sons Glenn R.
and Dewey N. Wagoner, both of Rockwell, Johnny M. Wagoner, Gold Hill, and E.
Arnold Wagoner, Faith; daughters Ruth Zirkle, Rockwell, Lois Garmon, China
Grove, Betty Wagoner, of the home, and Sharon Becker, Huntersville; 14
grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, First
Baptist Church of Gold Hill, conducted by the Rev. Toney Parsons, pastor, and
the Rev. Larry Beaver, pastor, Main Street Baptist Church, China Grove. The body
will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial, Gold Hill Cemetery.
