Notes ‘n’ quotes ...
Come to the Hall in the fall.
That’s the cry from National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association director Claude Hampton. His dream of a Hall of Fame for the public is about to come true.
Hampton said Saturday that the doors should officially open no later than Sept. 15. He had hoped for an earlier opening but there are repairs to be made to one of the walls in the next week or two.
So there will finally be cars parked at that impressive building on East Innes Street that has been nothing but a curiosity for the past decade.
Hampton’s goal is for a trolley system to take visitors from the N.C. Transportation Museum in Spencer to the Hall and vice-versa.
He hasn’t decided on a price but added that several people just drop in on occasion and he shows them around.
With over $500,000 worth of games, broadcasting opportunities and memorabilia inside, the Hall is destined to be one of Salisbury’s top attractions.

Legion baseball is over. But the thing that continues to boggle my mind is the procedure of what team a kid will play for.
You decide which base school a kid lives closer to. But at West Rowan, it takes on a whole new meaning.
Does it make sense to you that West Rowan battled its way into the playoffs and then as soon as its season concluded, those teammates suddenly became enemies? West sent players to three different teams, for cryin’ out loud — Rowan, South Rowan and Mooresville.
n
Speaking of Legion, any idea who will replace the legendary Jim DeHart as coach of Rowan?
n
OK, you pick up the Saturday Salisbury Post and look at the scores from the first Friday night of the football season.
Are you more shocked that Salisbury stayed within 7-6 of West Rowan or that South Rowan annihilated East Rowan 56-7?
n
Say what? Rae Carruth asked a judge recently to set a trial date soon, saying he will be found not guilty and he wants to get on with his football career.

And what would this column be without a Scooter Sherrill note or two?
The experts are expecting N.C. State to rev up its offense this season with the addition of several athletic types. Herb Sendek has even hinted he might have two separate fives to run in and out.
Some of the banter has a starting lineup of Scooter, Anthony Grundy, Kenny Inge, Damon Thornton and Damien Wilkins.

Whatever happened to: Damien Argrett?
Pfeiffer coach Dave Davis thinks he might have the real deal in Argrett, an all-county performer last year for South Rowan.
You have to marvel at Argrett’s growth spurt. In one year, he went from 5-10 to 6-6.
“And Idon’t think he’s through growing,” said Davis.
He’s right. Argrett has already gained an inch and now stands 6-7.
Argrett won’t play next season but will be allowed to practice. Davis thinks he’ll be a perfect fit in that high-octane CVACchampionship offense.

If you need any Pfeiffer basketball recruiting news, you can usually find Davis at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium watching the Piedmont Boll Weevils. Well, at least until the fifth inning, anyway. That’s when it is mandatory that he takes the kids to the Weevil World playground.

There will be some T-’n’-T next season for area basketball fans.
As in Tarrance (Livingstone’s Julie, a 6-5 center and CIAAstar).
As in Terrence (Pfeiffer’s Baxter, a 5-7 guard who was in the top 10 nationally last year in assists and steals).
As in Terrence (Catawba’s Hamilton, a 6-7 skywalker who might be the best dunker you’ve never seen.

Hampton should be a pretty popular name over the next few years. You’ve got brother-sister act Ben and Hillary at West Rowan, whose mom, Gay and uncle Tim White were quite a brother-sister combo at West in their day.
And Lindsay Hampton (she’s related to Claude), is a freshman flash for Salisbury’s tennis team, just another future star to keep that juggernaut going.

A date to remember: August 31.
When Appalachian State travels to Wake Forest for the opening of college football season, it will be a who’s who of former area stars.
ASU has East Rowan’s Adam Horton, who has gone from linebacker in high school to tight end in college, South Rowan’s Andre Neely, who has gone from wide receiver to linebacker, Davie County brothers Neil (fullback) and Scott (defensive back Cornatzer and Kannapolis’ Desmond Miller (defensive tackle).
Wake will run former Concord star Jamie Scott.

Nick Maddox, the Florida State tailback who switched to receiver, will visit Wake Nov. 11.

And finally ...
Only 13 more days before Livingstone travels 1.2 miles to face Catawba in the first meeting between the teams since 1971. Be there.
