Sara Bradford Cress

CONCORD — Sara Bradford Cress, 83, 8865 Bradford Road, died Friday (Aug. 18, 2000)at NorthEast Medical Center.

Born June 9, 1917, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Cress was a daughter of the late Mack and Mary Etta Goodman Bradford. Mrs. Cress was owner and operator of Sara’s Beauty Shop on West C Street, Kannapolis, from 1946 to 1968.

In later years, she worked for Foamex (formerly Reeves Brothers), Cornelius, for 15 years until her retirement in 1981. She was a member of Gilwood Presbyterian Church, Concord.

Her husband, George D. Cress, died Nov. 20, 1979.

Survivors include sons Mike and Phil Cress, both of Kannapolis, and John and Jimmy Cress, both of Concord; daughters Dixie Billings, Kernersville, and Sara Drye, Kannapolis; stepdaughter Anna Erwin, Kannapolis; sisters Grace Conner, Midland, and Rachel Barringer, Misenheimer; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services: 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Whitley’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. Dallas Bennett. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis.

Visitation:7-9 tonight, at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of son Phil Cress, 5823 Mooresville Road, Kannapolis.

 

Thomas Lewis Faulkner

ALBEMARLE —Thomas Lewis Faulkner, 66, 312 Church St., died Friday (Aug. 18, 2000)at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Born March 17, 1934, in Albemarle, Mr. Faulkner was a son of the late Ruth Lee Bailey and Gladie Glenn Faulkner. A roofer with T.L. Faulkner Roofing Co., he was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include wife Margaret C. Faulkner; sons Lewis Kent Faulkner, Robin Glenn Faulkner and Mike Timothy Faulkner, all of Albemarle; daughters Margaret Marie Carver and Annette Christine Faulkner, both of Albemarle, Nancy Ruth Beaver, Rockwell and Ruth Geraldine “Gerri” Fraley, New London; brothers Bobby Glenn Faulkner, Derl Hamilton Faulkner, Don Gene Faulkner, Roger Kent Faulkner and Jimmy Everette Faulkner, all of Albemarle; sisters Brenda Sue Kimrey and Judy Ruth Lunsford, both of Albemarle; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Hartsell Funeral Home-Albemarle, conducted by the Rev. Reese English. Burial, Fairview Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.

 

David Allen Howell

MOORESVILLE — David Allen Howell, 50, Cornelius Road, died Thursday (Aug. 17, 2000)at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.

Born Dec. 2, 1949, in Franklin County, Mr. Howell was the son of the late John Ervin and Vivian Stallings Howell.

Survivors include sisters Evelyn H. Robbins and Edith H. Morrow, both of Mooresville; and brother John Thomas “J.T.”Howell of Grand Prairie, Texas.

Services:Graveside, 2 p.m. Sunday, Glenwood Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Harold Hudson, Hospice chaplain.

Visitation:6-8 tonight, at the home of Evelyn and Jearell Robins.

Memorials:Hospice of Charlotte, 1420 E. Seventh St., Charlotte, N.C. 28024.

Cavin-Cook Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Arthur D. Miller

LARUE, Ohio —Arthur D. Miller, 86, 8830 Larue DeCliff Road, died Friday (Aug. 18, 2000)at his residence.

He was the father of Marna M. Steinman, Salisbury, N.C.

Services:2 p.m. Monday, Stofcheck Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Darlene Weidner. Burial, LaRue Cemetery.

Visitation:4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

 

Bessie Albright Surratt

Bessie Albright Surratt, 83, Salisbury, died Friday (Aug. 18, 2000)at her residence after two months of serious illness.

Born June 24, 1917, in Spencer, Mrs. Surratt was a daughter of the late Ollie Harris and Benjamin B. Albright. A homemaker, she was a 1935 graduate of Spencer High School. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church of Spencer.

Her first husband, Richard W. Wright, died May 8, 1954.

Survivors include husband John Dow Surratt, whom she married Dec. 15, 1961; stepson John Stephen Surratt, Salisbury; and brother Joe Albright, Spencer.

Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Summersett Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Rodney Hagans, pastor, Central United Methodist Church, Spencer. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

Visitation: 2-2:45 a.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.
