KANNAPOLIS — Dorothy Gulledge Ballard, 70, 1504 Longbow Drive, died Tuesday (Aug. 15, 2000) at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte.
Born Aug. 7, 1930, in Chesterfield County, S.C., Mrs. Ballard was a daughter of Clevie Tucker Gulledge Scruggs, Salisbury, and the late Perkins
Gulledge. She retired as a registered nurse from Cabarrus Memorial Hospital, now NorthEast Medical Center. She was a member of First Foursquare Church, Concord.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include husband David L. Ballard; sons David L. “D.L.” Ballard Jr., Kannapolis, Thomas “Eric” Ballard,
Kilua, Hawaii, and Mark C. Ballard, Concord; sister Myrtle Sifford, Salisbury; and seven grandchildren.

John Henry Berryman
The funeral is today for John Henry Berryman, 81, Hunterwoods Nursing Home, Charlotte, formerly of 502 Dial St., Landis, who died Tuesday (Aug. 15, 2000) at Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte.
Born Oct. 17, 1918, in Georgia, Mr. Berryman was a retired truck driver.
His wife, Grace Truman Gaskins Berryman, died March 14, 1995.

Samuel Lee Cruse, 54, Brightmoor Nursing Home, died Monday (Aug. 14, 2000) at the home.
Born Dec. 31, 1945, in Concord, Mr. Cruse was a son of the late Emma Osborne and Avon Wallace. He retired from Fieldcrest Cannon.

NORWOOD — Bruce Edwin Parks, 59, 11704 N.C. Highway 138, died Tuesday (Aug. 15, 2000)in Camden, Tenn.
Born Nov. 21, 1940, in Springfield, Ohio, Mr. Parks was a son of the late Betty Jean Pilcher and Robert Earl Parks. He was a driver with
J.B. Hunt Trucking Co. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps 1959-1962. He was a member of Sylacogia Church of God,
Sylacogia, Ala.
Survivors include daughters Debra Kay Dotson, Athens, Ohio, and Mary Amanda Parks, Norwood; sons Scott Dawson Parks, Catawba, Ohio, and Warren Lynn Parks, Hinesville, Ga.; sisters Susie Parks Mease and Anna Marie Parks, both of Lebanon, Pa.; brother Robert Earl Parks Jr., Springfield, Ohio; and 10 grandchildren.

Rev. Edgar F. Pepper Jr.
WADESBORO — The Rev. Edgar Fletcher Pepper Jr., 74, Wadesboro, died Tuesday (Aug. 15, 2000).
Born March 21, 1926, in High Point, he was a son of the late Edgar and Melita Faison Pepper. He graduated from Thomasville High School, received his bachelor degree from High Point University and a master’s degree in divinity from Wesley Theological Seminary, Washington, D.C. A U.S. Army veteran, he served two years in Germany during World War II.
The Rev. Pepper served the western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church for 38 years in the following appointments:Love’s Grove Chapel, Stanfield,
Stokesbury-Pine Hall, Dellwood, Bethesda-Ruffin, New London, Saint Mark’s, Belmont, Prospect, Monroe, Hopewell, Concord, and Calvary, High Point. He retired in 1989 and returned to active ministry in 1999 to serve the New Hope, Bethel and Long Pine churches in Anson County.
His first wife, Lena Sharpe, died Sept. 18, 1991.
Survivors include wife Yvonne Sheppard Petty, whom he married June 26, 1999; son
E.F. Pepper III, Misenheimer; step-daughters Debra Sadler, Franklin, Tenn., and Beverly
Rodrigez, Aberdeen; and seven grandchildren.

(aug. 15, 2000)at the home of her son, Douglas Wayne Bumgarner, Kannapolis, after a period of declining health.
Born March 6, 1945, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Richards was a daughter of the late Annie Louise Lambert and Carl Anderson Brindle. She worked for Cannon Mills Co., plant 1 sewing department, and later as a self-employed insurance agent with Franklin Life Insurance Co. from 1993 to present.

Born Dec. 11, 1913, in Statham, Ga., Mrs. Roberts was a daughter of the late Nora Bell Puckett and David Montie Wright. Mrs. Roberts was a member of Central Baptist Church.

She was a member of Mocksville Second Presbyterian Church and was a retired school teacher from New Jersey.
She survived by brother Rondal Smoot, Mocksville.

ALBEMARLE — Virginia Hinson Stoker, 91, 24724 Highway 52 S., died Tuesday (Aug. 15, 2000)at Stanly Memorial Hospital.
Born June 18, 1909, in Stanly County, Mrs. Stoker was a daughter of the late Alfred and Alice Underwood Hinson and was a homemaker. She was a member of Stony Hill United Methodist Church and charter member of United Methodist Women.
Survivors include husband Talmage S. Stoker; son Kenneth L. Stoker, Albemarle; sister Nellie Whitley, Mount Pleasant; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
