Dorothy Gulledge Ballard

KANNAPOLIS — Dorothy Gulledge Ballard, 70, 1504 Longbow Drive, died Tuesday (Aug. 15, 2000)at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte.

John Henry Berryman

CHARLOTTE — John Henry Berryman, 81, of Hunterswood Nursing Home, formerly of 502 Dial St., Landis, died Tuesday (Aug. 15, 2000) at Presbyterian Hospital.

Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, is in charge.

 

K. Kevin Borst

K. Kevin Borst, 43, of Salisbury, died Monday (Aug. 14, 2000)at his residence.

Born Sept. 18, 1956, in Newton, Iowa, Mr. Borst was a son of Mary Ann Lansrud and K. Max Borst, both of Cleveland, Tenn. Educated in Newton, Iowa schools, he received his nursing degree from the Iowa Methodist School of Nursing in Des Moines, Iowa, and his bachelor’s in business administration from Upper Iowa University, Des Moines Campus, Des Moines, Iowa. He was employed as a pharmaceutical sales representative for Parke-Davis and was a member of Crossroads Community Church, Salisbury.

Survivors include wife Jennifer Barnes Borst, whom he married Nov. 4, 1978; sons Bradley, Matthew and Andrew Borst, all of the home; brother J. Michael Borst, Altoona, Iowa; and paternal grandmother Alice McCartney Borst, Springfield, Ohio.

Services:11 a.m. Friday, Summersett Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Jim Kirkpatrick, associate minister Evangelical Free Church, Johnston, Iowa. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park, Salisbury.

Visitation:7-9 tonight, at the funeral home.

Earl Theodore Dedmon

MOCKSVILLE — Earl Theodore Dedmon, 95, of Junction Road, died Tuesday (Aug. 15, 2000) at Autumn Care of Mocksville.

Born March 21, 1905, in Davie County, Mr. Dedmon was a son of the late Mamie Trollinger and Jesse Dedmon. He had worked with Southern Railway as a depot manager for 25 years and had been a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of Cooleemee First United Methodist Church.

Mr. Dedmon was preceded in death by his wife Dora Bell Ridenhour Dedmon, who died in 1993.

Survivors include daughter Dorothy D. Cranford, Mocksville; and two grandchildren.

Services:2 p.m. Friday, Eaton Funeral Service chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dennis Marshall. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.

Mary Eleanor Hatchett

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Mary Eleanor S. Hatchett, 75, died Monday (Aug. 14, 2000) at a local health-care facility.

Her son, G. Parker Hatchett III, lives in Salisbury, N.C.

Services: Graveside, 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Chattanooga National Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Barry Hildebrandt.

Visitation: 1-2 p.m. Thursday, Heritage Funeral Home.

Memorials: American Heart Association, 519 E. 4th St., Chattanooga, Tenn. 37403.

 

Claude Bernard Higgins

ASHEVILLE — Claude Bernard Higgins, 82, 217 Laurel Ridge Road, formerly of the Mill Bridge community, died Saturday (Aug. 12, 2000) in Buncombe County.

Born Aug. 27, 1917, in Wilkes County, Mr. Higgins was a son of the late Essie Brown and John Higgins. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Mr. Higgins was preceded in death by his wife, Lorene Martin Higgins, who died in 1991.

Survivors include sons Jimmie Higgins, China Grove, and Roger Higgins, Kalua-Kona, Hawaii; daughters Eve H. Miller, Kronberg, Germany, and Karen J. Higgins, Asheville; brother John Higgins, North Wilkesboro; sister Dell Revis, North Wilkesboro; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

Services: Memorial, 2 p.m. Thursday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, conducted by the Rev. Derald Adams, pastor of South China Grove Baptist Church. The body will be cremated.

Visitation will follow the service at the funeral home.

Memorials: South China Grove Baptist Church, P.O. Box 163, China Grove, N.C. 28023; or charity of the donor’s choice.

 

Danny G. Koonts

LEXINGTON — Danny Glenn Koonts, 44, of Captain Drive, died Sunday (Aug. 13, 2000) at his residence.

Born March 16, 1956, in Davidson County, Mr. Koonts was a son of Roy “R.C.” and Edith Leonard Koonts. He was vice president of R.C. Koonts Masonry and past president of the Central Piedmont Masonry Association. He was a member of Reeds Baptist Church.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include daughter Jessica Koonts, of the home; brothers Craig and Cliff Koonts, both of Lexington; grandmother Mary K. Littler.

Services were held today at 11 a.m. Burial, Reeds Baptist Church Cemetery.

Memorials:Reeds Baptist Church, New Building Fund, 180 Reeds Church Road, Lexington, N.C. 27295.

Davidson Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Frances Brindle Richards

MOORESVILLE — Frances Brindle Richards, 55, 1488 Shinnville Road, died Tuesday (Aug. 15, 2000) at the home of son Douglas W. Bumgarner.

The family will be at the son’s home at 1109 S. Walnut St., Kannapolis.

Martha Hall Woodward

AURORA, Colo. — Martha Henrietta Hall Woodward, 77, of Aurora, Colo., a native of Rowan County, died Sunday (Aug. 6, 2000).

Born July 31, 1923, in Mount Ulla, she was program director for the YWCA for 30 years and had a bachelor’s degree from Women’s College, Greensboro. She was a member and elder at Central Presbyterian Church of Denver, Colo.

Survivors include husband Ronald L. Woodward, Aurora, Colo.; sister Louise Morrison, Davidson; and brother Turner Hall, Bear Poplar.

The body was cremated and a committal of cremated remains was held on Aug. 8, 2000, at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Staging Area “D.”

Horan & McConaty Funeral service, Aurora, Colo., was in charge.
