Tina Louise Benfield
KANNAPOLIS — Tina Louise Benfield, 32, 501 Duke Ave., Columbia, S.C., died Friday (Aug. 11, 2000)at her residence after several months of declining health.
Born Feb. 10, 1968, in Mecklenburg County, she was the daughter of J.W. and Linda Griggs, both of Kannapolis. She had taught Braille at the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind in Spartanburg.
She was a graduate of the Morehead School for the Blind in Raleigh and Western Carolina University, where she earned a degree in business administration.
Survivors, in addition to her parents, include son Alonzo Jenkins II, Columbia, S.C.; sister Terri Griggs, Kannapolis; brothers Gary Benfield and J.W. Griggs Jr. both of Kannapolis, and Jerry Griggs, Mooresville; paternal grandmother Elizabeth Griggs, Kannapolis; and maternal grandmother Ruth Henderson, Charlotte.
Services: Graveside, 2 p.m. Monday, West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove.
Visitation: 7-9 Sunday, Whitley’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis.
Ada I. Bryant
KANNAPOLIS — Ada Belle Isenhour Bryant, 93, formerly of Glenwood Street, died Thursday (Aug. 10, 2000) at Big Elm Nursing Center after two months of declining health and two weeks of serious illness.
Born June 10, 1907, in Iredell County, she was a daughter of the late Lovella Fox and Charlie David Isenhour. Retired after working in sales at several local department stores, she also formerly sold Stanley Products. She was a member of Jackson Park Baptist Church.
Her husband Cleveland Joseph Bryant, died in 1968.
Survivors include son Eddie Bryant, China Grove; sister Christine Davis, Greenville, S.C.; brother Eugene Isenhour, Kannapolis; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services:3:30 p.m. Sunday, Lady’s FuneralHome, conducted by the Rev. Sandy Yow. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.
Visitation: 6-8 tonight, at the funeral home.

MOUNT ULLA — Helen Misenheimer Fletcher, 78, 140 Warren Drive, died Friday (Aug. 11, 2000)at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Esther Leonard Futrell
Esther Leonard Futrell, 87, Salisbury, died Friday (Aug. 11, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 2, 1912, in Rowan County, Mrs. Futrell was a daughter of the late Mary Barringer and Grover C. Leonard. Educated in the Rowan County schools, she was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and a former member of St. Paul’s Home Extension Club.
Her husband, Augustus Franklin Futrell, died April 8, 1973.
Survivors include sons Richard D. Futrell, Salisbury, and Roland M. Futrell, Kannapolis; and sisters Louise L. Rice and Ruth L. Bowen, both of Salisbury, Marie L. Chandler, Albemarle, and Edith L. Shaver, Statesville.
Services:3 p.m. Sunday, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. William S. Ketchie, pastor. Burial, church cemetery.

Nell Goodnight
KANNAPOLIS — Nell Virginia Reynolds Goodnight, 86, Concord, died Thursday (Aug. 10, 2000) at Total Living Center, Stanley.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Kannapolis, where she served as a youth adviser and a Women of the Church leader.
Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, First Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Joseph R. Crawford. The family will receive friends in the church parlor after the service.

Brady Edward ‘Ed’ Spry
HICKORY — Brady “Ed”Edward Spry, 45, died Friday (Aug. 11, 2000) at Frye Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 6, 1955, in Rowan County, Mr. Spry was a son of Charles David and Lena Mae Champion Spry, both of the home. Employed with Hickory Springs as an accountant, he was a former member of the Hickory Jaycees.
Survivors include sisters Phyllis James, Mocksville, and Kristy Swink, Connelly Springs; and brothers Monty Spry, Connelly Springs, and Randy Spry, Asheville.
Services:11 a.m. Sunday, Catawba Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Ron Davis. Burial, Catawba Memorial Park.

James M. Stoker Jr.
LEXINGTON — James M. Stoker Jr., 82, 440 Gray Road, died Friday (Aug. 11, 2000)at his residence.
Born Nov. 16, 1917, in Davidson County, Mr. Stoker was a son of the late Frances Elizabeth Loflin and James Matthew Stoker. He was formerly employed with Print Craft.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served in Australia as an engineer. He was a member of the VFW and First Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include wife Mary Stoker; daughter Janice Davis, Lexington; son Mike Stoker, Lexington; five grandchildren; and three great-grandsons.
Services:3 p.m. Sunday, First Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial, Forest Hill Memorial Park. The body will be taken to the church at 2:30 p.m.
Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight, Piedmont Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the residence.

Brenda Spry Talbert
EAST SPENCER — Brenda Spry Talbert, 53, 420 Boundary St. died Thursday (Aug. 10, 2000)at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.
Born Nov. 27, 1946, in Rowan County, Mrs. Talbert was a daughter of the late Hazel Honeycutt and Aaron Burns Spry. A graduate of North Rowan High School, she had retired from KoSa Industries, where she was employed for 15 years. She later moved to Myrtle Beach, S.C., where she was manager of the Food Chief.
Survivors include son Howard “Craig” Talbert, Salisbury; daughter Tina T. Kincaid, Salisbury; brothers Ralph B. Spry and George Eddie “Cotton” Spry, both of Salisbury; sisters Joyce S. Clawson and Linda S. Gualtney, both of Salisbury; and three grandchildren.

Joseph Thomas Vinson
KANNAPOLIS —Joseph Thomas Vinson, 73, 410 Gaddy St., died Thursday (Aug. 10, 2000)at his residence after five years of declining health and six months of serious illness.
Born Dec. 17, 1926, in Chester County, S.C., Mr. Vinson was a son of the late Pearl Dotson and James Oliver Vinson. Earlier employed with Cannon Mills, Plant 4, weave room, where he served as an overseer, he had retired in 1989 from Spring Industries, Fort Mill, S.C.
Mr. Vinson was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a member of Allen-Graham Masonic Lodge 695.
Survivors include wife Dorothy Owens Vinson; daughters Dottie Vinson Ross, Matthews, and Debbie Vinson Winchester, Monroe; sisters Doris Vinson Ludwig and Betty Vinson Osborne, both of Kannapolis, Martha Vinson Strube, Eatonton, Ga., Carolyn Vinson Curtis, Benton, Ark., Faye Vinson Hargett, Concord, LaVerne Vinson Stamey, Lake Norman, Ruth Martin Pfeiffer, Indianapolis, Ind., and Frances Vinson Marlowe, China Grove; and brothers George Martin, Lawrenceburg, Ky., and Ralph Martin, Freetown, Ind.
