George Henry Coulter

LANDIS — The funeral will be Sunday for George Henry Coulter, 75, 1009 S. Zion St., who died Saturday (July 29, 2000) in London, England.

Born Oct. 7, 1924, in Catawba County, Mr. Coulter was a son of the late F.H. and Mae Freeze Coulter. He owned Coulter’s Beautiful Shoes, Inc., Kannapolis, for 30 years and had earlier worked for Query-Goodman Co. for 18 years. After retirement, he worked for The Shoe Department in Kannapolis for the past several years.

A member of Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church, Kannapolis, and the Joe Ridenhour Sunday school class, he served on the church council, was assistant treasurer of the church, a member of the finance committee and treasurer of Lutheran Brotherhood. He was also an usher and had served as chairman of the ushers for many years.

Mr. Coulter was a member of Allen-Graham Masonic Lodge. A 33 DegreeShriner, he was involved in numerous Shrine activities, including holding memberships to Cabarrus Shrine, Oasis Shrine Scottish Rite Bodies and York Rite Bodies. He was a member of Royal Order of Jesters Court 109, past ambassador at large and membership chairman, board of trustees of Oasis Shrine emeritus, past potentate’s aid since 1978 and ambassador emeritus for the Shrine.

Additionally, he was a past member of Kannapolis Lions Club and Rotary Club, former president of Kannapolis Merchants Association and emeritus of the N.C. Merchants Association.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Blackwelder Coulter, whom he married April 9, 1944.

Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. Doug Kearney and the Rev. Hoke Ritchie. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday, Whitley’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis. At other times the family will be at the home on South Zion Street.

Felton Brice Gordon

DAVIDSON — Felton Brice Gordon, 71, Davidson, died Tuesday (Aug. 2, 2000) at University Hospital, Charlotte.

Whitley’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis, is in charge.

 

James Forest Harrison

ROCKWELL — James Forest Harrison, 75, Rockwell, died Wednesday (July 2, 2000) at his home.

Born Dec. 11, 1924, in Tazwell, Va., Mr. Harrison was a son of the late Thomas and Polly Medley Harrison. He was educated in the Virginia schools. A veteran, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He had worked as a heavy equipment operator in Baltimore, Md. He was a Baptist.

His first wife, Hazel Louise Crane Harrison, died Nov. 19, 1993.

Survivors include wife Mildred B. Harrison, whom he married Sept. 10, 1994; daughter Barbara Hash, Rockwell; stepson Robert Gray, Mount Pleasant; stepdaughters Shirley Wilson, Fort Mill, S.C., Brenda Shue and Betty Love, both of Concord, and Kathy Sifford, Austin,Texas; brothers Quinton Harrison, Streit, Md., Joe Harrison, Whiteford, Md., and Kenneth C. Harrison, Lake Wales, Fla.; sisters Janet Sparks, North Taswell, Va., and Martha Livesey, Frankfert, W.Va.; and three grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Powles Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. B.J. Hudson and the Rev. Joe Black. Burial, Brookhill Memorial Gardens.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Memorials: Wayside Baptist Church, 7831 Camp Mack Road, Lake Wales, Fla. 33853.

 

James Victor Height

The funeral will be Saturday for James Victor Height, 87, Salisbury, who died Tuesday (Aug. 1, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health.

Born June 13, 1913, in Asbury Park, N.J., Mr. Height was a son of the late Irvin and Ellen Height. He was educated in the Asbury Park, N.J., schools. A veteran, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He retired as a building inspector and was a member of Southeast Congregation of Jehovah’s Witness, Salisbury.

Survivors include wife, Mary Troutman Height, whom he married Oct. 15, 1960; stepdaughter Petronia Schluss, Norfolk, Va.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services: Memorial service, 1 p.m. Saturday, Southeast Congregation of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, conducted by B.H. Fulcher. The body will be cremated.

Visitation: At the church after the service.

Lyerly Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Lula Wilks Keaton

The funeral will be Friday for Lula Wilks Keaton, 87, 1331 W. Horah St., who died Monday (July 31, 2000) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation after several years of declining health.

Services: 1 p.m. Friday, Mount Zion Baptist Church, Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. Nilous Avery II, pastor. Burial, National Cemetery, V.A. Medical Center, Salisbury.

Visitation: 12:30 p.m. Friday at the church.

Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Margie Giles Thompson

LEXINGTON —Margie Giles Thompson, 84, 1433 Giles Road, died Wednesday (Aug. 2, 2000) at Lexington Memorial Hospital.

Born Aug. 21, 1915, in Davidson County, Mrs. Thompson was a daughter of the late Walter Willis Giles and Fleta Blanche Craver. She was a lifelong resident of Davidson County. Retired from Manhattan Shirt Factory, she was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church,Tyro.

Survivors include husband James Clark Thompson; daughters Shelia Jacobs, Greenville, and Bessie Ruth Harper, Lexington; sons James Thompson, Tyro, and Walter E., Henry and William J. “Buddy” Thompson, all of Lexington; 24 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Donald Phillips. Burial, Sandy Creek Cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home on Giles Road.

Memorials: St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 4299 S. N.C. Highway 150, Lexington, N.C. 27295.

 

Thomas Watson Wright

KANNAPOLIS —Thomas Watson Wright, 71, 8180 Freeze Road, died Wednesday (Aug. 2, 2000) at his home.

Whitley’s Funeral Home is in charge.
