James ‘Jimmie’Clark

James “Jimmie” Morrison Clark, 76, of Salisbury, died Tuesday (Aug. 1, 2000) at his residence.

Born Sept. 20, 1923, in Concord, Mr. Clark was a son of the late Annie Yow and John Lee Clark. Educated in Rowan County schools, he was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II as a corporal in the infantry.

Mr. Clark retired from Duke Power Company, where he was employed for 40 years. He was a teacher at Trinity Baptist Church of Spencer where he was a former deacon, Sunday school teacher, member of the choir, the Sunday school superintendent and a member of the Mercy Fund Committee. He was a former member of the V.F.W. Post #3006, the Moose Lodge and the Harold B. Jarrett American Legion Post #342.

Survivors include wife Nina Peele Clark, whom he married April 5, 1946; son David W. Clark, Spencer; daughters Jo C. Eagle, Salisbury, and Gail C. Lambert, Concord; sister Ruby Coble, Salisbury; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services:2 p.m. Thursday, Summersett Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Max Mills, pastor Trinity Baptist Church. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park, with military honors conducted by the Rowan County Veterans Council.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the residence.

Stoy Lee ‘Ed’Edwards

BADIN — Stoy Lee “Ed”Edwards, 81, 133 Spruce St., died Tuesday (Aug. 1, 2000)at N.C. Lutheran Nursing Homes, Inc.

Born Nov. 13, 1918, in Comer, Ga., Mr. Edwards was a son of the late Maggie Sorrow and Claude Washington Edwards. He was retired from BRSInc., where he was a heavy equipment operator, and had served in the U.S. Navy for three years in the South Pacific during World War II.

Survivors include wife Edith W. Edwards, of the home; sons Scott Edwards, Locust, and Donnie Edwards, Badin; brother M.J. Edwards, Augusta, Ga.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Hartsell Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Gary Pinion. Burial, Stanly Gardens of Memory, Albemarle.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home.

 

James Victor Height

James Victor Height, 87, of Salisbury, died Tuesday (Aug. 1, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Lyerly Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Ernest W. Hood Jr.

Ernest W. Hood Jr., 83, of Woodleaf, died Tuesday (Aug. 1, 2000) at his residence, after an extended illness.

Born May 8, 1917, in Salisbury, Mr. Hood was a son of the late Beulah Mae Davis and Ernest W. Hood. Educated in Salisbury city schools and Woodleaf schools, he was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during World War II. He was a superintendent in the sheet metal department for Daniel Construction Company before his retirement, and was a member of Corinth Church of Christ.

Survivors include wife Mary Murph Hood, whom he married July 21, 1934; son Billy W. Hood, Mocksville; brother Elmer Lee Hood, Monroe; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services:11 a.m. Thursday, Summersett Funeral Home chapel, conducted by R.D. McDaniel, Corinth Church of Christ, and Tim Pinkston, Albemarle Church of Christ. Entombment, Rowan Memorial Park Mausoleum, Salisbury.

Visitation:7-8:30 tonight, at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the residence.

Nancy Diane Miller

KANNAPOLIS — Nancy Diane Miller, 42, 4076 Old Concord-Salisbury Road, died Monday (July 31, 2000)at NorthEast Medical Center, after two weeks of serious illness.

Born Jan. 19, 1958, in Cabarrus County, she was a daughter of Eugene “Gene”Bradford Christy and Nancy Cline Christy, both of Kannapolis. She was formerly employed with Family Dollar Store, Amoco (Centergrove Road Store)and Drug Emporium. She was a member of Elwood Lane Original Freewill Baptist Church, Kannapolis.

Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her first husband, Tim Moore, who died June 1988.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include daughter Christy Renee Moore, of the home; and grandmother Ermalee Cline, Kannapolis.

Services: 3 p.m. Thursday, Whitleys’ Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Tom Parrish. Burial, Sunset Cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of Ermalee Cline, 207 Fisher St., Kannapolis.

Elsie Wilkinson Mock

LEXINGTON — Elsie Wilkinson Mock, 78, 5278 W. Old 64, died Tuesday (Aug. 1, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Born May 9, 1922, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Mock was a daughter of the late James Wilkinson and Ada Gaskey. She was a resident of Davidson County for most of her life. A homemaker, she was a member of First Lutheran Church, Lexington.

Survivors include husband Dr. David Carlton Mock, of the home; daughters Jennifer Sparrow, Durham, Renni Mickle, Greer, S.C.; son James F. Mock, Lexington; and three grandchildren.

Services:2 p.m. Thursday, conducted by the Rev. Craven Ford. Burial, Forest Hill Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Piedmont Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the residence.

Katherine Ward Richardson

Katherine Ward Richardson, 76, U.S. Highway 158, died Tuesday (Aug. 1, 2000) at Meadow Brook Manor.

Born Jan. 10, 1924, in Davie County, she was a daughter of Josie Williams and Charlie Ward. A homemaker, she was a member of Smith Grove United Methodist Church.

Survivors include husband J.N. Richardson; son James C. Richardson, Advance; daughter Patricia Richardson, Mocksville; sisters Elizabeth Boger and Louise McClamrock, both of Mocksville; and four grandchildren.

Services: 7 p.m. Thursday, Smith Grove United Methodist Church, conducted by the the Rev. Bobby McLawhorn, the Rev. Ray Oferell and the Rev. Bobby Swain. Burial, 11 a.m. Friday, Smith Grove United Methodist Church cemetery.

Visitation: Following the service Thursday at the church.

Linda Mae Royal

Linda Mae Royal, 48, of Salisbury, died Tuesday (Aug. 1, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born Oct. 6, 1951, in Rowan County, Ms. Royal was a daughter of Madleen Shehan Royal, of the home, and the late Hobert Royal. she had attended the Rowan County Vocational Workshop and was of the Pentecostal faith.

Survivors include brother Hobert Ray Royal, Salisbury; sisters Dianne R. Burris and Carolyn Motley, both of Salisbury.

Services:11 a.m. Thursday, Lyerly Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Claude Gaultney, an uncle. Burial, Brookhill Memorial Gardens, Rockwell.

Visitation:7-8:30 tonight, at the funeral home.

 

Pearl Stroupe Shaver

The funeral will be Thursday, for Pearl Elizabeth Stroupe Shaver, 94, of Rockwell, who died Monday (July 31, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born Oct. 27, 1905, in Iredell County, Mrs. Shaver was a daughter of the late Florence Mae Conger and W.R. Stroupe. Educated in Mecklenburg County schools, she was a homemaker. She was a member of Gold Hill United Methodist Church, Rockwell Senior Citizens Club and Rockwell Meal Site.

Mrs. Shaver was preceded in death by her husband, Leo N. Shaver, who died in 1975.

Survivors include son Leo N. Shaver Jr., Horseshoe Bay, Texas; daughter Betty Williams, Charlotte; sister Virginia Helms, Florida; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services:2 p.m. Thursday, Gold Hill United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. J. Carlton Lucas, pastor. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation:7-8:30 tonight at the church.

James Everette Stoner

CONCORD — James Everette Stoner, 85, 460 Branchview Dr. N.E., brother of Sadie Wilhelm, Salisbury, died Tuesday (Aug. 1, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center.

Born April 22, 1915 in Rowan County, Mr. Stoner was a son of the late Mittie Belle Morgan and John Knox Stoner. He lived in the Rimer Community for most of his life.

Services: 4 p.m. Friday, Cross of Christ Lutheran Church of Concord, conducted by the Rev. Joseph A. Miller. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Hartsell Funeral Home, Concord.

Milton Oscar Trull

KANNAPOLIS —Milton Oscar Trull, 74, 408 Kingsport Drive, died Sunday (July 30, 2000)at NorthEast Medical Center.

Born July 9, 2000, in Union County, Mr. Trull was a son of the late Ila Mae Hill and Oscar Roland Trull. He was an inspector at Ronson Hydraulics.

Mr. Trull was preceded in death by his wife, Earlie Mae Trull, who died March 30, 1998.

Survivors include daughters Patricia Felts, Myrtle Beach, S.C., Sheri Howard, Concord, and Nancy Trull, Charlotte; son Russell Milton Trull, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; sister Helen Shinner, Monroe; and five grandchildren.

Hartsell Funeral Home is in charge.
