Lewis Alsobrooks

Lewis Alsobrooks, 79, Salisbury, died Friday (April 28, 2000) at his residence.

Lyerly Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Mary C. Brewer

CONCORD — Mary Childers Brewer, 78, formerly of St. Mary Street, died Friday (April 28, 2000) at Big Elm Retirement Center, Kannapolis.

Born Oct. 20, 1921, in Alexander County, Mrs. Brewer was a daughter of the late James Virgil and Pansy Elizabeth Reece Childers. She had retired from Cannon Mills.

Survivors include son Wayne Brewer, Kannapolis; sisters Mozelle Keane, Inez York and Sue Queen, all of Kannapolis, and Dorothy Pressley, Concord; and two granddaughters.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. Steve Ayers. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis.

Visitation: 10-11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of son Wayne Brewer, 2563 Scott St., Kannapolis.

 

Pauline Heilig Correll

CHINA GROVE — Vivian Pauline Heilig Correll, 98, 1480 Old Beatty Ford Road, died Friday (April 28, 2000) at her residence.

Born Aug. 7, 1906, in Rowan County, she was a daughter of the late Rosa Menius and Frank Heilig. She was educated in the Rowan County schools.

She had retired in 1973 after 47 years with Cannon Mills. She was a member of Mount Zion United Church of Christ and its Lillie Rimer Circle.

Her husband, Brady Karl Correll, died Dec. 31, 1977.

Survivors include daughter Doris Edmiston, China Grove; sister Viola Melchor, China Grove; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Mount Zion United Church of Christ, conducted by the Rev. William Campbell. Burial, Greenlawn Cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Linn-Honeycutt, China Grove. At other times the family will be at the residence.

Memorials: Mount Zion United Church of Christ, P.O. Box 1298, China Grove, N.C. 28023.

 

Baxter ‘Bill’ Gobble

SPENCER — The funeral will be Monday for Baxter Franklin “Bill” Gobble, 78, formerly of Spencer, who died Thursday (April 27, 2000) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation, Salisbury, after three years of declining health.

Born Feb. 10, 1922, in Rowan County, Mr. Gobble was a son of the late Hugh Tom and Lucy Leonard Gobble. He was educated in the Rowan County schools. A Baptist, he had retired in 1984 after 20 years with Cannon Mills, Plant 16, China Grove.

His wife, Lorine Johnson Gobble, died Feb. 8, 1990, and a son, Jim Gobble, died April 2, 1978.

Survivors include sons Tommy, Randy and J.W. “Jaybird” Gobble, all of Salisbury, Kenneth Gobble, Statesville, Gene Gobble, Lexington, and Mike Smith, Albemarle; daughters Mrs. Richard (Joan) Smith, Lexington, and Mrs. Larry (Janet) Myers and Mrs. Don (Peggy) Tittle, both of Salisbury; 30 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Summersett Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. Joe Black, pastor, Eastside Baptist Church. Burial, Greers Chapel United Methodist Church, Davidson County, conducted by the Rev. John Perrell.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of Randy Gobble, 1865 Enon Church Road, Salisbury, and daughter Joan Smith, 947 Early James Road, Lexington.

 

Beulah Honeycutt Morgan

Beulah Pauline Honeycutt Morgan, 88, Salisbury, died Friday (April 28, 2000) at Spencer Healthcare Center, Spencer.

Bonnie Ingram

KANNAPOLIS — Bonnie St. Clair Ingram, 84, 114 N. East Ave., died Friday (April 28, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Lady’s Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Mary Lou McConnaughey

MOORESVILLE — Mary Lou “Mate” Cherry McConnaughey, 79, 330 W. McNeely Ave., died Thursday (April 27, 2000) at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.

Born July 24, 1920, in Lincoln County, Mrs. McConnaughey was a daughter of the late Alfred and Agusta Graham Cherry. Educated in the Rowan County schools, she was a member of Mount Moriah Holiness Church, where she served on the Mother’s Board for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd McConnaughey, and sons Franklin Eugene McConnaughey and Floyd McConnaughey Jr.

Survivors include sons Curtis W. and Rickey W. McConnaughey, both of Indianapolis; daughters Betty Simonton, Mrs. Walter (Mary) Rankins, Mrs. Randy (Margaret) McLaughlin and Mrs. Jim (Sarah) Carr, all of Mooresville, and Mrs. Price (Frances) Leazer, Cleveland; sisters Katie Ruby Kennerly and Mrs. George (Sue Cheryl) Moss, both of Kannapolis; brothers Robert Lee and Edward Cherry, both of Mooresville; 27 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Mount Moriah Holiness Church., conducted by Bishop K.E.V. Brown and the Rev. Terry B. Cherry. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial, Green Acres Cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8 tonight, Clyburn and Bigham Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home of daughter Betty Simonton, 330 W. McNeely Ave.

 

Russell McIntire

Russell McIntire, 81, Salisbury, died Saturday (April 29, 2000) at his residence.

Charles Robert Murph

CONCORD — The funeral will be Monday for Charles Robert Murph, 86, formerly of 2216 Kannapolis Highway, who died Thursday (April 27, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center after six months of declining health and three weeks of serious illness.

Born Dec. 25, 1913, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Murph was a son of the late Charles A. and Margaret Susan Petrea Murph. He had retired in 1979 after 49 years in the weave room at Cannon Mills, Plant 4, Kannapolis. He was a member of Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church, Kannapolis.

His wife, Mary Belle Anderson Murph, died May 18, 1998.

Survivors include son Charles R. Murph Jr., Greensboro; daughter Peggy Murph Barrier, Mount Pleasant; brother Clarence A. Murph, Kannapolis; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. Doug Kearney, the Rev. Hoke Ritchie, and a grandson, the Rev. Jeffrey D. Murph, rector of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Oakmont, Pa. Entombment, Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis.

Visitation: 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday, Whitley’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis. At other times the family will be at the home of daughter Peggy M. Barrier, 9420 Bowman-Barrier Road, Mount Pleasant.

Oscar Gaither Whitaker

MOCKSVILLE — Oscar Gaither Whitaker, 61, Country Lane, died Thursday (April 27, 2000) at his residence.

Born April 28, 1938, in Davie County, Mr. Whitaker was a son of the late Essie Wall and Oscar Roy Whitaker. He was a retired custodian with William R. Davie Elementary School.

Survivors include wife Faye Myers Whitaker; stepsons Michael Wayne Seamon, Harmony, and Mitchell Ray Seamon, of the home; stepdaughter Tammie Carter, Advance; brothers James Franklin Whitaker, Mocksville, and Gary Lee Whitaker, Yadkinville; sisters Doris McDaniel, Shelby Mullis and Carlene Speaks, all of Mocksville; and four grandchildren.

Survivors: 2 p.m. Sunday, Eaton Funeral Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Jim Gryder and the Rev. Doug Smith. Burial, Oak Grove United Methodist Church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, at the funeral home.
