Robert Hendley Abernethy, 88, 31 Boyden St., died Wednesday (April 26, 2000) at his home.
Born Aug. 28, 1911, at Hendley Plantation, Anson
County, Mr. Abernethy was a son of the late Robert S. and Amelia H. Abernethy. He attended
Berry College in Georgia.
He had retired after 43 years as a load dispatcher
in the electrical department at Alcoa. He had also served in the U.S. Army Reserves.
A member of Bethel United Methodist Church, New
London, he was a former Sunday school teacher. A charter member of Boy Scout Troop 42 , he
received the Silver Beaver award in 1997.
His wife, Cora Pauline Bunch Abernethy, preceded
him in death.
Survivors include daughters Carolyn A. Lindow,
Annapolis, Md., and Alice L. Cavaliero-Matthews, Badin; brother Charles C. Abernethy, New
London; sister Aileen Morris, Badin; two grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

CHINA GROVE Margaret Miller Bostian, 97,
formerly of China Grove, died Wednesday (April 26, 2000) at Ocean View Nursing Center, New
Smyrna Beach, Fla.
Born April 8, 1903, in Rowan County, Mrs. Bostian
was a daughter of the late Clara Walker and Colin Miller. She taught school in Rowan
County for a number of years and was co-owner/operator of Bostian Mercantile Co. in China
Grove.
A member of St. Marks Lutheran Church, she
was former coordinator for the American Legion and Legion Auxiliary volunteer services at
the Hefner VAMedical Center.
Her husband, George Moses Bostian, died July 8,
1967, and son Robert E. Bostian died Feb. 25, 1994.
Survivors include son George M. Bostian,
Charlotte; daughter Betty B. Julian, New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; sister Mae Peninger, Concord;
12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Rehabilitation after three months of serious illness.
Born April 28, 1916, in Iredell County, Mr.
Williams was a son of the late George and Sally Bowman Williams. He was educated in the
Iredell County schools.
He had retired as a farmer and owner of a service
station. He was a member of Trading Ford Baptist Church.
His wife, Inez Brown Williams, died June 10, 1999.

Born March 6, 1918, in Cabarrus County, Mr.
Faggart was a son of the late Albert Luther and Edna Witherspoon Faggart. Educated in the
Cabarrus County schools, he was employed by Linn-Corriher Mills for more than 40 years.
He was a member of Mount Mitchell United Methodist
Church, Kannapolis, where he taught the Mens Bible Class for more than 50 years. He
served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include wife Lorene Huffman Faggart; son
Tommy M. Faggart, Harrisburg; daughters Carolyn F. Reckley, Gainesville, Fla., and Shelby

death.

Chapter 258, Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of Broad Street United
Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wiley W.
Howell; a son, David Cyrus Howell; and a daughter, Marolyn Proctor.

She was educated in the Salisbury schools and at

Tarrytown-on-the-Hudson. She was a member of St. Lukes Episcopal Church and the
Junior League of New York.
Her husband, Loy Durant Thompson Jr., died in
August 1967.
