Sarah Barbee Almond

ALBEMARLE — Sarah Frances Barbee Almond, 83, 33426 Old Salisbury Road, died Monday (April 24, 2000) at Britthaven of the Piedmont.

Born Oct. 10, 1916, in Stanly County, Mrs.. Almond was a daughter of the late Silas and Bertie Morris Barbee. She was a homemaker and a member of Mountain View Baptist Church.

Her husband, Carlie Joseph Almond, preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons Jimmy Almond, Fairfax, Va., Buddy Almond, Norwood, and Jerry and Larry Almond, both of Albemarle; daughters Margaret Hathcock, Oakboro, Elaine Barrier, Richfield, Jane Creed, Mount Pleasant, and Nancy Almond, Charlotte; brothers Clarence and Fred Barbee, both of Albemarle, and Calvin Barbee, Norwood; sisters Kathleen Bowers, Sadie Howell and Helen Burleson, all of Albemarle; 14 grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Mountain View Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Steve Tucker and the Rev. Jessie R. Dennis. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Hartsell Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home of daughter Elaine Barrier, 41385 Earl Road, Richfield.

Memorials: Mountain View Baptist Church, 44166 Mountain View Church Road, Albemarle, N.C. 28001.

 

Robert ‘R.L.’ Hartman Jr.

The funeral will be Wednesday for Robert Lee “R.L.” Hartman Jr., 77, 801 Wellington Hills Circle, who died Sunday (April 23, 2000) at his home.

Born Jan. 27, 1923, in Rowan County, Mr. Hartman was a son of the late Robert Lee and Sarah Kimel Hartman. He was a graduate of Boyden High School.

He served in the Pacific with the U.S. Army’s 11th Airborne Division during World War II and was a member of the 11th Airborne Association.

He had retired after 40 years with Southern Railway. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Golden Rule Sunday School Class.

Survivors include wife Mildred Jacobs Hartman; stepson Robert H. Reeves, Sarasota, Fla.; stepdaughter Gayle Reeves, Salisbury; and sister Vera McGugan, Mocksville.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, First United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev.Thomas L. Griffis, pastor, and the Rev. Judith L. White, associate pastor. Burial, City Memorial Park.

Visitation: At the cemetery after the service.

Summersett Funeral Home is in charge.

George Franklin Malcolm

MOORESVILLE —George Franklin Malcolm, 77, West Iredell Avenue, died Sunday (April 23, 2000) at Brian Center Health and Retirement, Mooresville, after a period of declining health.

An Iredell County native, Mr. Malcolm was born May 10, 1922. He was the son of the late Will and Lottie Gant Malcolm. He had retired in the ‘70s as owner of George’s Taxi in Mooresville.

Survivors include a brother, Zeb Malcolm, Rutherford College.

Graveside services were to be held at 10 this morning at Glenwood Memorial Park.

Cavin Funeral Home was in charge.

 

Banks William Mullis

The Rev. Banks William Mullis, 82, Salisbury, retired pastor of Trading Ford Baptist Church, died Monday (April 24, 2000) at the Salisbury Lutheran Nursing Home.

Lyerly Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Violet White

DENTON — Violet Hope Peacock White, 73, 444 High Rock Road, died Monday (April 24, 2000).

Born July 9, 1926, in Davidson County, Mrs. White was a daughter of the late Vernon and Blanche Steed Peacock. A member of First Baptist Church, she had retired from Burlington Industries.

Survivors include sons Eddie White, Salisbury, and David White, Denton; daughters Sandra Vanhoy, Albemarle, Lisa Land, New London, and Tammy Hendrick, Lexington; brother Don Peacock, Denton; and five grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, First Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Vern Peterson and the Rev. Charles Moses. Burial, Mountain View Memorial Gardens.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight, Briggs Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home on High Rock Road.

Robert ‘Bob’ Henry Ware

SPENCER — Robert “Bob” Henry Ware, 73, 201 N. Salisbury Ave., died Monday (April 24, 2000) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Summersett Funeral Home, Salisbury, is in charge.

 

James Boyden Bass

CHINA GROVE — The Rev. James Boyden Bass, 73, 512 Benchmark Lane, died Monday (April 24, 2000) at his home.

Born Nov. 23, 1926, in Rowan County, he was a son of the late Robert Fink and Lucy Jane Bass. A graduate of Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute, he had retired as pastor of Hallelujah Baptist Church, Kannapolis.

He was preceded in death by a son, Phillip Bass, and a daughter, Gwendolyn Bass.

Survivors include wife Katherine Mae Huffman Bass; son Jimmy Austin, Sanford; daughters Vickie Caton, Torrance, Calif., Jacqueline Cockerham, Gonzales, La., and Sherlyn Smith, Monroe; brother Robert Odell Bass, Kannapolis; sisters Mary Anderson, Statesville, and Ruby Mull, Concord; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Northcrest Chapel, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, conducted by the Rev. Frankie Bass, the Rev.Terry Martin and the Rev. David Little. Burial, Trinity Lutheran Church cemetery, Landis.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home on Benchmark Lane.
