Lost and found

It was a classic Easter story, with a time of trial, tearful doubts, fading hope and,
finally, redemption.The three youngsters at
the heart of the story didnt intend it that way, of course. They simply wandered
away from their Hmong community in east Rowan Saturday evening and, as adventuresome boys
are wont to do, promptly got lost in the woods. They could just as easily have disappeared
on the 4th of July or Labor Day or Christmas Eve. But when they were finally found
unharmed, 13 hours later, it seemed especially fitting that it was on a sunny Easter
Sunday morning a day that for many symbolizes the triumph of faith over doubt,
light over darkness, life over death. What better commemoration than to be reunited with
lost loved ones and restored to the bosom of a joyous family?
Of course, its only the adults
painfully aware that this story could have had a much different ending who would
read such symbolism into it. For the youngsters themselves, it just a scary night in the
woods, from which they emerged healthy but hungry and ready to move on to lifes next
great adventure: an Easter egg hunt. |
