Irene Swicegood Bailey, 85, 8720 Old Salisbury Road, died Sunday (April 23, 2000)
at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.
Born Jan. 11, 1915, in Davie County, Mrs. Bailey
was a daughter of the late Henry Arthur and Essie Essick Swicegood.
She had retired from Manhattan Shirt Co. She was a
member of the CTWU and Greers Chapel United Methodist Church, where she was active
in the United Methodist Women.
Her husband, John B. Bailey, preceded her in
death.
Survivors include sons J.B. Bailey, Linwood;
sisters Ruby Clement, Virginia Sue Swicegood and Katherine Lakey, all of Linwood, and Anne
Carlton, Winston-Salem; and brother H.A. Swicegood Jr., Columbus.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Greers Chapel
United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Joel Smith and the Rev. Chris Bennett.

Perry Larkin Carlton
The funeral will be Tuesday for Perry Larkin
Carlton, 43, Salisbury, who died Saturday (April 22, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical
Center.
Born Jan. 4, 1957, in Forsyth County, Mr. Carlton
was a son of the late Romulus Caloway and Fannie Land Carlton. Educated in the Rowan
County schools, he had owned and operated Carlton Auto Repair. He was of the Baptist
faith.
Survivors include fiancee Virginia Stubbs;
stepdaughters Jamie Gerhardt, Charleston, S.C., and Cathy Jones, Australia; brother Rommy
Carlton, Salisbury; and sister Penny Carlton, Salisbury.

Johnny Fleming
LANDIS Johnny Fleming, 64, 1003 N. Chapel
St., died Sunday (April 23, 2000) at his home.
Born April 6, 1936, in Rowan County, Mr. Fleming
was a son of the late John M. and Viola Hopkins Fleming. Educated in Rowan County schools,
he had retired from Parkdale Mills. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include wife Linda Rachel Pope Fleming,
Landis; sons Randy Dean Fleming, China Grove, and Rick Fleming, Mocksville; brothers James
Fleming, Kannapolis, and Luther Fleming, Monroe; sisters Elizabeth F. Whitman and Eva F.
Moore, both of China Grove; and seven grandchildren.

MOCKSVILLE The funeral will be Wednesday
for Annie Ruth Pruitt Goodlett, 69, Boxwood Church Road, who died Friday (April 21, 2000)
at her home.
Born May 30, 1930, in Davie County, Mrs. Goodlett
was a daughter of the late Cleo and Eunice Hosch Pruitt. She had attended J.C. Price High
School, Salisbury. Retired, she had worked at Fieldcrest Cannon Mills, Swink Plant,
Salisbury. She was a member of Erwin Temple CME Church, Woodleaf, here she had been
involved with the Missionary Society, kitchen committee and was former church custodian.
Survivors include sons Jerry and William Goodlett,
both of Salisbury, and Paul Goodlett, of the home; daughters Harriett Goodlett, of the
home, and Mrs. Myron (Margaret G.) Massey, Salisbury; brothers Cleo Pruitt, Cooleemee,
Alvin and James Pruitt, both of Philadelphia, Pa., and Leo Pruitt, Harmony; sisters
Frances Fowler and Linda Blackwell, both of Cooleemee, and Brenda Cuthbertson, Barber; and
seven grandchildren.

MOCKSVILLE Thomas Wade Reavis, 71, Liberty
Church Road, died Sunday (April 23, 2000) at his home.
Born June 26, 1928, in Davie County, Mr. Reavis
was a son of the late Thomas Cordle and Annie Jordan Reavis. Retired from the North
Carolina Department of Transportation, he had previously been employed at Hanes Hosiery.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and had served in World War II and the Korean War. He
was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.
Survivors include wife Thelma Jones Reavis;
daughters Mrs. Randy (Lisa) Sherrill, Mocksville, and Cindy Reavis, U.S. Coast Guard, San
Diego, Calif.; brother Felix Reavis, Clemmons; sister Esther Foster, Mocksville; half
sisters Nancy Jones and Lucille Melton, both of Mocksville; and two grandchildren.

Lillian Smith Ervin Raye, 71, Faith, who died Saturday (April 22, 2000) at Rowan Regional
Medical Center after nine years of declining health and a week of serious illness.
Born Sept. 30, 1928, in Rowan County, Mrs. Raye
was a daughter of the late Henry Green and Mabel Blanche McNeely Smith. Educated in the
Rowan County schools, she had retired. She was a member of Ursinus United Church of
Christ, Rockwell, and Lexington Moose Lodge Women of the Moose.
Her first husband, Jay David Ervin, preceded her
in death.
Survivors include husband Lloyd Raye; sons Tim
Ervin, Faith, and Bob Ervin, Fayetteville; daughter Bonnie Ervin Deal, Faith; stepson
Lloyd Raye Jr., Houston, Texas; stepdaughters Lisa Raye, Houston, Texas, and Cynthia
Braswell, Charlotte; brothers Marvin, William and Alvin Smith, all of Salisbury; sisters
Mary Lee Rex, Salisbury, and Faye Cole, Denton; six grandchildren; and four
great-grandchildren.
