A Landis man sentenced to life in prison for murder is being considered for parole.Barry Lane Carter, 36, was sentenced in 1986, according to
the North Carolina Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission. He is currently being
held in Rowan Correctional Center.
Since he was sentenced prior to 1994 laws,
Carters mandantory possible parole date is March 11, 2017. But the Parole Commission
is meeting to determine whether he should be paroled sooner.
Carter pleaded guilty to second-degree murder
after shooting Tony Martin Faggart, 28. Testimony indicated Carter found his wife of three
years, Jibbe Black Carter, with the victim at Faggarts southern Rowan home.
Carter broke into Faggarts home, warranting
a first-degree burglary charge that was later dropped as part of the plea bargain.
Testimony also indicated that Carter pistol-whipped Faggart after shooting him three
times.
The Parole Commission will send notification
within 10 days of a final decision by the board.
If Carter is approved to be eligible for parole, a
separate hearing will be held to determine whether parole will be granted.
