Archibald Archie Anderson, 76 formerly of Lincoln Street, died Thursday (April
20, 2000) at the Brian Center in Concord.
Born June 29, 1923, in Blair Hall, Scotland, Mr.
Anderson was a son of the late Archibald and Sarah Maers Anderson. He had retired in 1983
from the Polychrome Corp., Yonkers, N.Y.
A former elder at South Presbyterian Church in
Yonkers, he was a member of Pebble Killwinning Masonic Lodge No. 23 in Scotland.
His wife, Marion May Ferguson
Anderson, died Feb. 23, 1990, and a daughter, Jessie Beryl Cedola, died May 15, 1995.
Survivors include brother David Anderson,
Birmingham, England; and a granddaughter.

Geneva Abernathy
KANNAPOLIS The funeral will be Saturday for
Geneva Blackwell Abernathy, 86, 465 Parks Field Drive, who died Wednesday (April 19, 2000)
at the Brian Center, Mooresville.
Born June 6, 1913, in Belmont, Mrs. Abernathy was
a daughter of the late Walter and Lula Blackwell. A homemaker, she had retired from Cannon
Mills.
Her husband, James Morris Abernathy, died in July
1961.
Survivors include daughter Libby Abernathy Hannah,
Chesterfield; son James E. Abernathy, Kannapolis; four grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.

ALBEMARLE Bennie Lynwood Moore, 62, 2306
Sandy Lane, died Thursday (April 20, 2000) at his home.
Born Nov. 23, 1937, in Tarboro, Mr. Moore was a
son of the late Mary Shaw Moore Edmundson and the late William Moore. He had retired as
chief operator of the wastewater treatment plant for the city of Albemarle.
Retired from the U.S. Navy, he served during the
Vietnam era. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church and the Ham Operators
Club.
Survivors include wife Bonita M. Moore; daughters
Debra Griffin, Marshville, and Karen Brown, Albemarle; brothers William Bill
Moore, Albemarle, Melvin Dink Moore, Denver, N.C., Levy Moore, Franklin
Springs, Ga., and Roy Moore, Cary; sister Carole M. Proctor, Tarboro; and four
grandchildren.

Robert McAlister Barnett
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. Robert McAlister Barnett
Jr., 72, formerly of Spencer, N.C. ,died Tuesday (April 18, 2000) in a local hospital.
Born in Somerset, Ky., Mr. Barnett was a son of
Robert McAlister Barnett and the late Mary Harn Barnett. He had retired as a general
foreman with Southern Railway in 1987 after 42 years of service.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church,
Hixson, where he was a church council member and had served as chairman of the property
committee for 15 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors, in addition to his father, include wife
Alice Sowers Barnett; son Robert McAlister Barnett II, Harrison; daughters Mary Alice
Nipper, Johnson City, Carol Anne Coppinger, Hixson, and Susan Ellen Barnett, East Ridge.;
sister Sue Barnett Frick, Chattanooga; and nine grandchildren.

Crump Jr., 50, 4032 Maid Marion Lane, died Wednesday (April 19, 2000) at NorthEast Medical
Center, Concord.
Born Nov. 3, 1949, in Greensboro, Mr. Crump was a
son of Frances Laughon Crump Needham of Greensboro and the late George Lamar Crump. He
owned the Glass and Frame Shop.
A member of Midway United Methodist Church, he was
assistant Scoutmaster at Gilwood Presbyterian Church. An Eagle Scout, he served on the
N.C. Central Council of Boy Scouts.
He graduated in 1973 from N.C. State University
with a degree in engineering. He also earned two masters degrees from Pfeiffer
College in 1996.

Tonda Lewis Crump; son George L. Trey Crump IIIof the home; daughter Elizabeth

Mabel Rabon Hartman, 96, Salisbury, died Wednesday
(April 19, 2000) at Camelot Manor Nursing Care, Granite Falls.
Born July 17, 1903, in Rowan County, Mrs. Hartman
was a daughter of the late Hattie Coggins and Benjamin F. Rabon. Educated in the Rowan
County schools, she worked for the family business, Rabon Bakery, during her early years.
A homemaker in her later life, she was a member of
Coburn Memorial United Methodist Church.
Her husband, Clarence Adam Hartman, died July 11,
1985. Sons Edward R. and Wayne M. Hartman also preceded her in death.
Survivors include Clarence C. Hartman, Hickory;
nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Born July 19, 1931, in Stanly County, Mr.
Huneycutt was a son of James Houston Hatley, Stanfield, and the late Ethel Mae Huneycutt
Hatley. A general contractor, he owned and operated RDRInc., where he served as president.
He was a member of Mission Baptist Church.

Frances Almond Huneycutt; sons Danny Reid Huneycutt, Eddie Reece Huneycutt and Todd

Corriher Grange Road, died Thursday (April 20, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center
after a period of declining health.
Born Sept. 8, 1927, in Rowan County, Mr. Smith was
a son of the late Ethel Corriher Smith and Lester Lutz Smith. He was a graduate of Landis
High School.
Mr. Smith had retired from the Statesville branch
of Western-Southern Life Insurance Co. He was also a farmer and a member of St. Enoch
Lutheran Church, Kannapolis. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include wife Dolly King Smith; son Larry
Smith, Rockwell; daughters Denise Kluttz, Norwell, Mass., and Pamela Herring, Graham;

CONCORD Mary Lewis Brown, 91, 1009 Elm St.,
died Tuesday (April 18, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center.
Born Feb. 26, 1909 in Iredell County, Mrs. Brown
was a daughter of the late Wilson and Roberta Johnson Adams. She was a domestic worker in
private homes.
She was a life member of Marable Memorial AME Zion
Church, where she was a member of the Senior Usher Board. She was also a missionary, a
stewardess, a class leader and an honorary member of the senior choir.
Survivors include daughter Eloise Wilkes,
Kannapolis; sister Ivy Louise Adams, Kannapolis; 14 grandchildren; and 38
great-grandchildren.

Moore was a daughter of the late Jerry Lloyd and Gracie Duncan Stafford. A homemaker, she
was a member of Missionary Methodist Church.
Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by husband Wesley
Lee Moore, son Ronald Moore and daughter Julia Dowling.

Vernon Devine Plyler, 76, Salisbury, died Thursday
(April 20, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health
and two weeks of serious illness.
Born Oct. 5, 1923, in Chesterfield, S.C., Mr.
Plyler was a son of the late Mary Aldridge and Jim Plyler. Educated at Pageland High
School, Pageland, S.C., he had retired as a general foreman in the mechanical department
of Norfolk-Southern Railway.
He was a member of Union Lutheran Church, Andrew
Jackson Masonic Lodge, the Rowan County Shriners and the Scottish Rite. He was a 32-degree
Mason and a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, having served in the 418th Bomber
Squadron.
Survivors include his wife, Zarah Cauble Plyler,
whom he married Oct. 5, 1946; son Jimmy Franklin Plyler, Salisbury; daughters Glenda
Plyler Dean, Libby, Mont., Sylvia Plyler McDaniel, Salisbury, and Emily Plyler Jones,
Concord; sisters Faye P. Hatley and Beth P. Casey, both of Charlotte, and Jean P. Mills,
Kannapolis; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
