Ruby Gee Severt

KANNAPOLIS — Ruby Gee Severt, 90, 1710 Moose Road, died Friday (April 14, 2000)at Five Oaks Nursing Center after several years of declining health.

Born Nov. 23, 1909, in Madison County, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Amanda Thomas and James Gee. Mrs. Severt worked for Cannon Mills, Plant 4, weave room, for 50 years before her retirement. She was a longtime member of Kirkwood Presbyterian Church.

Her husband, Alton M. Severt, died in 1962. A son, Richard Lloyd Crane, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughters Marie S. Anderson, Kannapolis, and Annie Ruth Gee Burris, Mount Pleasant; son James Paul Severt, Mount Holly; brother Hubert Gee, Kannapolis; sister Annabelle Gee Navarro; 16 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Tuesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Keith Grogg. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Whitley’s Funeral Home.

Memorials: Kirkwood Presbyterian Church, 900 Klondale Ave., Kannapolis, N.C. 28081.

 

Rev. Winfred L. Bagwell

ROCKWELL — The Rev. Winfred L. Bagwell, Gaffney, S.C., died Friday (April 14, 2000).

He was formerly pastor at Lyerly Memorial United Church of Christ.

Survivors include wife Julia Lyerly Bagwell; sons Ronald Bagwell, Kings Mountain, and Timothy Bagwell, Gaffney, S.C.; brothers Cecil Bagwell, Columbia, S.C., and Luther Bagwell, Liberty, S.C.; sisters Ann Malaga, Columbia, S.C., and Mary Paul, Florence, S.C.; and six grandchildren.

Services:Private graveside, Saturday, Lyerly Memorial United Church of Christ cemetery.

Powles Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

 

Mike Junior Bowers

Mike Junior Bowers, 50, 213 N. Lee St., died Saturday (April 15, 2000)at Rowan Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health.

Born May 13, 1949, in Hartwell, Ga., Mr. Bowers was a son of the late Sarah Rebecca Brewer and Eugene Elbert Bowers. A welder, he was educated at R.A. Clement High School, Cleveland.

Survivors include daughter Michelle Bowers, Salisbury; brothers Benjamin “Ben”Daniels, Salisbury, Willie Earl, Joseph E. and Mack Junior Bowers, all of Atlanta, and Robert L. Bowers, Mooresville; sisters Eva L. Brown, Gladys Bowers and Glenda Reliford, all of Salisbury, and Connie Barber, Atlanta; and one grandchild.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, A.R. Kelsey Memorial Chapel, Noble andKelsey Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. D.S. Houston. Burial, Mount Zion Baptist Church cemetery, Boyden Quarters.

Visitation: 1:30-2 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of sister Eva L. Brown, 917 Lincolnton Road.

 

‘Dot’Dickens

Darotha Frick “Dot”Dickens, 1409 W. Innes St., died Sunday (April 16, 2000)at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born in Rowan County, Mrs. Dickens was a daughter of the late Nannie Yost and Paul Lewis Frick. Educated in the Salisbury schools, she was a graduate of Boyden High School and studied music at Catawba College.

Mrs. Dickens taught music in her home and served as organist at Park Avenue United Methodist Church of Christ, First Baptist Church and Summersett Funeral Home. She provided music for numerous weddings and special occasions.

Mrs. Dickens was a member of First Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher.

Her first husband, Jack W. Haden, died Jan. 22, 1962.

Survivors include husband Ray Dickens and sister Mavis F. Wilson, Salisbury.

Services: 4 p.m. Tuesday, Summersett Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Tom Roberts. Burial, City Memorial Park.

Visitation: 3-4 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Memorials: Donor’s choice.

 

Virginia Jones

GREENSBORO — Virginia Jones, South Holden Road, died Sunday (April 16, 2000).

Eaton Funeral Service, Mocksville, is in charge.

 

Evelyn Coleman Thompson

The funeral for Evelyn Coleman Thompson, 88, of Columbia, S.C., will be held Tuesday.

She is the mother of Vivian Brown Davis, formerly of Salisbury.

Palmer Memorial Chapel, Columbia, S.C., is in charge.

 

Ellen Rabon Towell

KANNAPOLIS — Ellen Rabon Towell, 71, 1918 Troutman Hill Road, died Sunday (April 16, 2000) at her residence after five years of declining health and several months of serious illness.

Born Feb. 4, 1929, in Gaston County, Mrs. Towell was a son of the late Virginia Briggman and Thomas Lee Rabon. She had retired in 1995 from Cannon Mills, Plant 1, sewing room, after 51 years with the company.

Mrs. Towell was a member of God’s Church of Faith, where she played piano and organ.

Her husband, Graham Andrew Towell, died in 1984.

Survivors include daughter Rhonda Towell Childers, Salisbury; son Bobby Eugene Towell, Landis; brothers Leonard, Joe and Otis Rabon, all of Kannapolis, and Harry Rabon, Thomasville; sister Alice Wike, Kannapolis; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, God’s Church of Faith, conducted by the Rev. Jeff Upright. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Whitley’s Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the residence.
