QUARRY George Thomas Carrington Jr., 55, 212 Pine Drive, died Sunday (April 2,
2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.
Born May 18, 1944, in Halifax County, Va., he was
the son of George T. and Pauline Tuck Carrington. Educated in the Halifax County (Va.)
schools, he was employed by Earnhardt Lumber Co. for 25 years. He was of the Baptist
faith.
Survivors include wife Florence Polk Carrington,
whom he married 27 years ago; brother Harold Ray Carrington, South Boston, Va.; and
sisters Odell Carrington, Carolyn C. Barnett and Louella C. Yancey, all of South Boston,
Va., and Paula C. Burrell, Temple Hills, Md.
The family will be at the home on Pine Drive.

was a daughter of the late William Luther and Gennie Talbert Thompson. A Baptist, she had
retired from Albemarle Spinning Mill.

Patton Crainshaw, 94, Five Oaks Nursing Center, formerly of Sharon Street, who died
Saturday(April 1, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after two weeks of serious
illness.
Born Feb. 26, 1906, in Danielsville, Ga., Mrs.
Crainshaw was a daughter of the late James and Susan Patton. She had retired from Cannon
Mills washcloth department after 49 years with the company.
Her husband, whom she married in 1928, Joe Fink
Crainshaw, died in 1975. A daughter, Joyce Misenheimer, died in 1999.
Survivors include daughter Mrs. Dwight
(Jolene)Harwell, Concord; son Jerry Crainshaw, Kannapolis; four grandchildren; and seven
great-grandchildren.

Construction Co., he had also worked for the N.C. Department of Transportation at the
Interstate 40 rest area in Davie County.

and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

a week of serious illness.
Born Aug. 15, 1905, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Young
was a daughter of the late Sloan Henderson and Effie Schenk Pethel. Educated in the Rowan
County schools, she was a homemaker.
She was a member of Yadkin United Methodist
Church, the United Methodist Women and the Spencer Golden Age Club.
Her husband, Clyde Eugene Young, died Aug. 6,
1987.

Callie Lingle Smith
LANDIS Callie Lingle Fink Smith, 86, 804 S.
Main St., died Sunday (April 2, 2000) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after an
illness of a month.
Born April 12, 1913, in Cabarrus County, she was a
daughter of the late William Luther and Lugusta Goodman Fink. Educated in the Cabarrus
County schools, she received a degree in nursing from a Statesville school.
She and her husband owned and operated Smith
Grocery in Landis for 25 years. Mrs. Smith then worked in the lab at Cabarrus Memorial
Hospital until her retirement in 1981.
She served as organist for 40 years at First
United Methodist Church, where she was a member. She was also a member of the United
Methodist Women and the Gideons Auxiliary.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Graham L.
Smith.

daughter of the late Lee and Cora Belle Beck Leonard. Retired from Parkdale Mills,
(formerly Erlanger Mills), she was a member of Becks Lutheran Church.
Her husband, John J. Snyder, died in May 1985.
Survivors include son Charles L. Snyder of the
home; and sisters Becky Comer and Faye Leonard, both of Lexington, and Geraldine Garner,
Dillon, S. C.
